"You have 320 timesheets pending approval for the period" messages

My problem is that every project manager and administrator has a load of the
"You have XXX timesheets pending approval for the period ...." error messages
on their home page that I am struggling to get rid of. My guess is that it is
something to do with the RBS but I can't work out what. There are some values
in the RBS, but all resources have the RBS blank. Does anyone have any ideas ?
