YOU HAVE NEW UNOPENED ITEMS

Everytime I have email which has not been opened I get an envelope icon on
the taskbar which if I scroll over it says: "you have new unopened items".
This happens when I have email in ANY FOLDER.
This is useless and annoying to me because due to all the SPAM I ALWAYS have
new unopened email in my SPAM FOLDER.
How can I get rid of this feature?
I'd really like to be notified ONLY when I have new unopened email in my
INBOX FOLDER.

That comes up when outlook downloads any mail and can't be changed.
