Zip Files Invalid or Corrupt Outlook 2007 Cant Open

I am using Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and everytime someone emails me a
..zip attachment and I try to open it, it says that it's Invalid or Corrupt.
Even when I attach .zip files and email them to myself I receive the same
message. I have even saved the .zip file to my desktop and tried opening it
on another computer running Windows XP... the zip filed cannot be opened on
XP either... now I understand that occassionally zipped folder/files can
become corrupt but every attachement I am sent is Invalid or Corrupt. Does
anyone know why this is happening?

If you are running a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook disable this
integration and try again.

No virus scanner installed... however I was able to figure out that it is not
only a problem in Outlook 2007 but also in Windows Mail... and it only
happens with attachments that are larger than 1 MB in size. Its only a
problem with ZIP files.

Ok, here's a question: When you say it also happens in Windows Mail, do you
mean when you *send* the attachment, or when you pull it down?

Are you able to open the attachment that is in the Sent Items?

Ok, if Windows Mail doesn't recieve them correctly either, then, do you have
a web based access to that pop mailbox? If you do, can you open the zip
file from there? If you don't, can you access the pop mailbox from a
different location, like work instead of home (or vice versa)?

We tried this over the phone with a Microsoft Support Specialist. The same
thing happened. If its a ZIP attachment over 1MB it cant be opened, under
1MB opens with no problem. After 2.5 hours with the Microsoft Support
Specialist who had control of our computer, even he was unable to solve the
problem and is passing it on to the next level of support.

You tried which, a different location or a web client?

What type of mail server are you working with?

Ok, I'm trimming this all the way down just to make sure I understand this.

Someone on the Internet sends you a message with a zip file that is bigger
than 1MB attached.

Using a web browser, you connect to your mailbox at the ISP and try to open
the zip file, it fails saying that the zip file is invalid/corrupt.

If that's correct:
Microsoft Tech Support is still trying to help? That's surprising since it
doesn't sound like it's their problem at all.

Have you pinged the ISP, by any chance? Can you access the mailbox from a
seperate computer (like work, or home, or a library, wherever you aren't
able to get it to work now)?

OK let me trim this down some more for you- not sure how you think its not
Microsofts problem since this has nothing to do with my ISP...

If I use Outlook 2007, Windows Mail or Web Based email ANY ZIP ATTACHMENTS I
DOWNLOAD OVER 1 MB CANNOT BE OPENED IN WINDOWS VISTA... how would this be an
issue with my ISP? Yes, Microsoft IS still helping. A technician just called
me and he is still working on a solution.

I download the same messages over 1MB on my XP desktop computer and I can
open them with NO problems... open those same messages (I cc:'d them to my
laptop running Vista) and I cant... so ...... what advice do you have now?

When I try to open attachments I download on Vista and then save them to my
desktop and transfer them to XP I get the same message as I do on Vista, but
that's only if I save the attachment in Vista to my Desktop, and try to open
it on the computer running XP... if I download the message in XP I can open
it with NO problems.

It sure sounds like a Microsoft issue to me.

Because looking back over the conversation we've had, when I asked "If you
don't, can you access the pop mailbox from a different location, like work
instead of home (or vice versa)?" you didn't say 'Yes, if I download the
message on an XP box, it works fine.' In fact, it looks like that was the
first time you said it was limited to the Vista box. My apologies if I
missed something, but, I've re-read a few times now just to make sure I
wasn't missing something.
