Zip files

I use Entourage exclusively as my mail client. I have just received an email
with a .zip attachment. Can some knowledgeable member please explain why I
can not open this file by double clicking on it and then opening it in the
Mac default application "BomArchiveHelper".

I am using OSX 10.4.11 and Office 2004 Mac.

If I control click on the file I do not get the normal choice of which
application to use for expanding. The only way I could expand this file was
to drag it to my desktop and then open it in Stuffit. If I hve a .zip file in
a any other location than Entourage I can control click on the file and
select which application I want to expand.

Why can this not be done in Entourage. Any suggestions or help would be
greatly appeciated.

I can't really explain why it is not working, but nevertheless, it is always
recommendable to drag your attachments to the desktop, or some other folder,
before opening them. This has to do with the fact that when you open an
attached document, said document gets cached to your hard disk, and if you
modify it, these modifications do not get transmitted back to the server (in
the case of IMAP, Exchange or HTTP accounts). What kind of e-mail account
are you using?
