Zipping a Data Base for Email

Roger Bell

I have a Data Base which is just over 9 Megs in size. When I zip the Data
Base to send as an attachment, the size only reduces by a few bytes. I have
used "Compact & Repair" which does not make any difference to the Zipping.
Any help would be appreciated & Thanks

That sounds unusual. I usually see quite a bit of compression when zipping a
database. In case there's any corruption in the database you could try
creating a new blank database and importing everything from your existing
database. Then compact the new db and see if it gets any smaller, and then
zip it to see if it gets smaller.

Check if you accidentally encrypted the database, the file will not shrink
by much if you try and compress (zip) it..

If you encrypted it...it will not compress......

go:

tools->security->Encrypt/decrypt database.

Albert is correct. Encrypted databases don't compress very much. If you need
to encrypt it, use WinZip 9.0 or later, and encrypt after the file is
zipped, That will add very little to the file size and will encrypt it much
more securely than the internal engine in Access.

Arvin should not be trusted; he believes that the only appropriate use
of Access is to use MDB / MDE files.

I mean.. that cry baby needs to lose the training wheels
