Zoom disappears from Standard toolbar

I keep having to add the Zoom function to the Standard toolbar (Visio
2003) by clicking on the downward arrowhead at the right end of the
toolbar and selection “Add or Remove Buttons”, Standard, Zoom. It
quickly disappears whenever I add it (though it works once, maybe
twice). Is this normal? Is there a way to keep it there?

Have you tried
menu Tools -> Customize -> Commands
and drag the required tools to the toolbar.

Yes...but I don't recall if those were the cases in which the zoom
widget disappears. I shall try it again. Thanks.
