This object is corrupt or is no longer available error in Word 2003 (no Norton AV installed)

I have an end user who is creating a very large 10Q document in Word
with many embedded excel tables. After the objects have been embedded,
she gets the Object is Corrupt or is no longer available error.

I've looked through support.Microsoft.com and they try to blame Norton
AV, but we are not using that nor have we ever used that product (has
never been installed on the systems either). I've also seen numerous
posts saying that Norton is the culprit, but I know that it is not in
this case.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks

If after the objects have been embedded and then later she tries to
double-click the object to edit it and then encounters the error then even
though you have indicated Norton has never been on the computer I think you
should still use Windows Search and search for OfficeAV.dll (which is the
DLL for the Office Plug-in in Norton) and make sure it isn't present - this
does need to be ruled out since, as you found, that's the primary cause of
the issue you describe.

There have been numerous folks who swore they never had Norton and later
found they did have the DLL. All it takes to verify is a simple search to
verify. :)

If you do find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\norton antivirus\officeav.dll"

In the above example the path for "Officeav.dll" would depend on the
location of the DLL.

I have same issue. Several word documents have embedded documents and work fine. But one just doesnt open the embedded xml files it contains and shows "this object is corrupt or is no longer available". I searched for "dir /s officeav.dll" and nothing was found. What to do now?
