Mark,

Is this a large report? If so, perhaps you could code it to output the file
without autorun (so it doesn't try to open it immediately), then a timer
delay, then open it via code after the timer? Just a shot here, but I'm
thinking that perhaps it's trying to open the file before it's actually
finalized...

so.. if you take a SNP file that is created on someone elses machine
and try to open it on this desktop; does it work??

any machine on your network that doesn't regularly run
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com AND
http://officeupdate.microsoft.com is a security risk

dont ever have an unpatched machine anywhere and if your computer
people at work won't let you go there then complain to their bosses

ok.. talk to me about the printer situation on the machine that's
crapping out.. what is different with the printer situation? i've had
the worst times whenever someone has.. like a label printer for
example.. i had these exact same symptoms (report worked great on all
machines but one) and it was because someone had a different default
printer than access was spewing on

so i told the guy to change his default printer before using access
reports and it all started working again

SusanV - The reports are roughlyb 500kb+ and I like your thought about
useing a time delay, but how and where would i code it?

dbahooker - Yes the file does work on other machines and then sometimes
it doesnt, as it has the same problem on all the machines I have been
on... about 5+

aaron.kempf - The machines I used are fully up to date with windows
updates and the office updates. The printers we use are a little
different to the normal network ones people have. We use a program
called Novell iPrint. Its been setup so that if the user goes onto a
specific web address (internal), a web page comes up and offers any
printers in the building. If the user clicks on one, it automatically
installs it for you on your PC. Each of the machines I used had
different defult printers on and the error was the same. Here, we have
inkjets, laser printers and plotters, all HP. I didnt actually check
who had what exactly, so all of the computers may off only had inkets
and plotters as deafaults for example. Maybe I should check that.

lol dbahooker is aaron.kempf lol sorry lol

i'd check out the printers.. i swear; i had a crash that sounds just
like this; and it ended up someone had some crazy label printer as
their default printer

can you open the report just fine?

at this point; i swear-- my tolderance for windows is lower than most
people; so i would go ahead and wipe/clean this workstation and
reinstall windows

could be a bunch of things

you can either
a) stress about it and never find an answer
b) roll the dice and start over again

i wish i had more info to help you with; im just slammed right now.

I will take a further look at the printers, but could you give me some
more info on your problem and solution? I can open the reports fine in
access, no corruption or errors. I cant reinstall windows as I have
several workstations with the problem and possibly others to. I am no
biased against windows as its the only operating system I have/can use.

on the machine that crashes; exporting to SNP-- you can preview and
print the reports just fine?

im not biased against windows; i just know you can spend 20 hours
troubleshooting somerthing or 2 hours reinstalling windows

D

dbahooker

wait i thought that you said that this only happend on one machine??
i swear you said that somewhere.

so you sure you can't just download the latest snapshot viewer from the
office 2003 disk and reinstall it? or download it from
microsoft.com/downloads?

it pisses me off that MS didn't take SNP more seriously... i mean-- all
they needed to do to compete with PDF was make a SNP export for Excel
and Word and PDF would have gone tits up a long time ago

I cant remember saying that it was only 1 computer, but sorry if I did,
I said I had tried it on roughly 5 computers and they all did the same
error, I havent had time to try the printers suggestion, but I will. I
agree that it could take a long time to troubleshoot in Windows but MS
have put enough work into the Snapshot viewer as its not one of there
main products. I have already downloaded the latest viewer from MS.com
and that still does the same. I am patched upto date and my office is
to. I only have MS Office 2000.

I have finnaly sorted it!!! I rebuilt a computer from scratch and
found out it was my virus software, Mcafee, causing the problem. As
soon as I installed it, the file began erroring, but before that, there
was never an error. I had thought it was the virus scanning software
before but when I disabked it, the error still happened, what I didnt
try was uninstallin the software. I tried uninstalling mcafee off of
another computer and the files worked fine. I rang mcafee, whch took
forever, and they eventually told me to try patchin up the software to
patch 11. I did this and the error has been seen since/yet... Thanks
for the help from everyone!!!
