Peter,

there is another problem that you are missing. I do a complete install of
project 2003 and the PIA is not installed. You say that it is installed, but
it is not on the target computer.

Why?

Mark,

I've made some tests which *may* work for You.

However, I don't want to be abused because You're upset with MSFT so please
keep a polite level. Not everyone who frequent MSFT's newsgroup and try to
help other are employed by MSFT.

The following has only been tested with XP:

1. Download the Office XP PIAs
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...1E-3060-4F71-A6B4-01FEBA508E52&displaylang=en
2. Extract the files into a separate folder (You don't install the PIA by
executing the exe file).
3. Add both the wanted Interop DLL files and the associated reg files to
Your set up Project from the folder in step 2 above.
4. Test the solution.

The PIA for Project 2003 is not included in the Office XP PIA
redistributable set but with the PIA for Office 2003. You can download and
select the PIA for Project 2003 including the registry file in the same way
as for above.

Office 2003 Update: Redistributable Primary Interop Assemblies
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3a-ac14-4125-8ba0-d36d67e0f4ad&DisplayLang=en

The above works well on my test machine and the only drawback so far I've
noticed is that the COM Add-in don't popup in the host application like Excel
and Word.

Let me know the outcome of the above.

Hi,

I think the issue is that you cannot redist the office 2003 pia, in any way.
This is what Peter is pointing out.

The point with this is that you can install the PIA when you install office
2003 complete install, but this does not work for project 2003.

Guess that I'm doing an add-in for project 2003 :(

What is worse is that there is a wonderful boostrapper that could be used to
point to the microsoft website for any missing redist packages, but they only
make some of the redist packages work with the bootstrapper. Go figure eh?

Seems to me like half of MS has worked out a better way and the other half
are going backwards. I'm in the middle unfortunately.

I have had my application working for 1 year now using your approach - to
include the dlls in my application, but technically I'm not allowed to do
this and I want to be able to say I'm not breaking any of Microsoft's redist
agreements.

Peter is going to get someone to help come up with a working solution. I do
hope that they permit the solution to be posted as a blog entry so that
everyone can use it.

I appreciate your time and help.

Mark,

OK and thanks for the clarification.
Peter is going to get someone to help come up with a working solution. I do
hope that they permit the solution to be posted as a blog entry so that
everyone can use it.

I sincerely hope so and it would be even better if they can:
- Make a KB-Article and
- Perhaps later on make available a 'fix' for it.
Seems to me like half of MS has worked out a better way and the other half
are going backwards. I'm in the middle unfortunately.

Well, all the .NET stuff is handled in one 'department' and all the Office
stuff is handled by another 'department' so we will always be in the middle...

I hope Peter make a post in this thread as well.
