Gary said:Question Joan...
If I were to give a non admin user "Full Permissions" then that would
allow them the ability to flip the Bypass flag (similar to an Admin
user) as well?
Joan Wild said:No that shouldn't do it. You'd need to make them a member of the Admins
group. Note that they would need to be a member of the Admins group *in the
mdw that was used to secure it with*, assuming you set it while logged in
using this mdw.
Gary said:I then run thru the app after the copy to verify everything works. I
had a couple of errors and got back into the application and gave my
non Admin 'power user' full permissions. After that, I noticed that
user could also flip the bypass flag (using that Utility).
Guess I always thought the Users had to be members of the same
/wrkgroup for those permissions to work.
Maybe I need to read the security doc again...
Gary said:Yes, if I gave them Admins priviledges that would make them an Admin.
However, Full Permissions means to me just that. An Admins user has
full permissions... right?
Joan Wild said:But is this user a member of the Admins group?
No.
Yes, it is covered in the FAQ:
33. I want users in other groups besides the Admins group to be able to
administer the db and add
accounts
Gary said:Saw that, was just about to get into that.
However, i am not adding anyone.
Gary said:Sorry! Yes, one is a Group, the other a User account.
Oh... no?
Joan Wild said:Doesn't matter. The principle is the same. In your development mdw, you
create the groups and assign permissions to the groups. You create a
separate production mdw, and in it you create the exact same group names
and
SIDs. The advantage is that no one in your production mdw will have the
same power as the user in the Admins Group of your development mdw (the
Admins group is different).
Guess I always thought the Users had to be members of the same /wrkgroup for
those permissions to work.
Gary said:Obviously my understanding of creating Groups my be a mistake. Maybe I
should have created users.
I created a special group and then inside
the Distr MDW I created a few accounts there should have 'power' user
access and View only access. I gave them access to the Group I
created and new, full update etc. However, I didn't give Read access
and can't seem to get anywhere with these User ids.
