Beta 2 Technical Refresh (B2TR) Install Error

P

pcuser

I've successfully moved the TEMP and TMP folders to the D: partition. The
installer loaded, and updated. However, after the install finished, it
stated that the install failed - for what reason, I am not sure. The
installer did do something - now all my Office apps show weird symbols and
characters. The functionality is restricted by these weird changes. Any
advice?

To clarify...
The D: partition has about 40GB of free space.
The C: partition has under 200MB of free space.
The C: patition contains Windows.
The D: partition contains Microsoft Office 2007 Beta 2.
I am assuming that B2TR will install over B2 in it's directory on the D:
drive.

One old time method to change them is by creating a folder such as
D:\Temp on your PC
then create, in Notepad, a file named Autoexec.bat in the
C:\root folder and include in it these two lines

SET TMP=D:\Temp
SET TEMP=D:\Temp

A 'suggested' (more 'modern' <g>) method from MS is to first create the new folder for holding temp files as described above and
then to click Start then
right click on My Computer and choose Properties.
In the Properties dialog go to the Advanced tab
and select the [Enviornment Variables] button and edit the
TEMP and TMP variables there to point to their new location.

You may need to restart the computer to get those to 'take'.

However, based on the statistics you mentioned you'll still be far short of the 2GB of free space on the Windows drive to install
the MS Office 2007 Beta 2 Technical Refresh patch update.

Running Start=>Programs=>Accesories=>System Tools=>Disk cleanup
may help by clearing out things in the Temp and internet temporary file folders, but be careful on moving or deleting other items
that may appear to be 'candidates' such as the \Windows\Installer folder.
Removing or clearing that one can break quite a few things that may not be apparent until much later.

My %temp% and %tmp% are at their defaults, on the C: partition. How can I
change them to a different partition? >>
