I am trying to reinstall Office 2003 and cannot do so. Windows installer
goes through the process, and appears to be completing, when I suddenly get
an error msg that says something like: “Installation did not complete
successfully. We apologize for the inconvenience.†It asks me if I want to
report to Microsoft. No error code is given.
Why am I reinstalling? I had Word and Outlook only on the computer, and want
to put on Powerpoint and Excel now.
When I just tried to add those, I kept getting failed installs. The same
thing recounted above kept happening. I concluded something was wrong with
my original installation, so I decided to try using the Windows Installation
Cleanup Utility and then reinstall Office 2003.
Now I cannot complete the reinstallation. At first, when I attempted
reinstalls, the installer told me that I did not have enough space on my
_CD-Rom_ drive, which is strange. I decided it was probably trying to cache
files there for some reason, and so I ran the installer from “run†on the
startup menu as follows: E:\SETUP.EXE LOCALCACHE=F
When I do this, I don’t get told I lack enough space on the CD-ROM drive.
What happens is what is stated in the first ¶ above.
I am running Windows XP SP1 on a Dell Inspiron 5100, 1 GB RAM. My computer
is up to date for SP1 with all critical updates. The hard drive partition to
which I want to reinstall is D:, the CD-Rom Drive is E:, and the largest
partition is F:. I have tried running setup also with LOCALCACHE=D, but then
I get told E: (my CD-ROM drive) lacks enough space.
I really could use some help to reinstall Office 2003!
