* Hmm, afterthought re potentially misunderstood English usage, albeit I
refuse to amend my terminologies: think 1960s schoolboy punishment context,
not 2000s substance-ingestion context. Ah, the good old days... ;-)

We used to put a notch in our belt for each cut of the cane we got.

I had 135 by the time I left school

Then I topped the class in Airforce Law -- because I got so much practice in
it, being hauled up before the CO for disciplinary matters

No wasn't. but the reason I wasn't is that they used an oak paddle about
two inches thick and had holes drilled in it to cut down wind resistance.

Whenever it was used you could actually hear wind whistling through it.

I did have the misfortune to have a teacher that had a mental problem.
every other year she would pick one boy that could do no right. Then the
next year it was girls turn.

Years later after the principal of the school retired he admitted to me
and my mother she was mentally unstable.
