I suppose you could always try Entourage, with "Automatically check on Send"
enabled.... :)

I do...

:-\ Yeah, but I'd like to be "just OK" at least from time to time ;-)

John McGhie [MVP - Word and Word Macintosh]

Hi Daiya:

I'm about as foggy as everyone else on this subject.

The thing that sticks in my mind is related to how Word establishes its
initial settings for the Default Language.

As I understand it, it does this at start-up, by looking at the user's
keyboard setting.

Obviously it does it at First-Run, but I believe it also (at least on the PC
version) does it at startup. On the PC, the behaviour is different
depending on whether you have multiple locales (keyboards) installed or not.
On the Mac, everyone has multiple keyboards, so I would assume we inherit
that behaviour.

Now, if the user has performed a modification to the language of Normal
style in the Normal template, Word should read that in at startup and ignore
the keyboard. If the user Normal language is undefined, then I think Word
checks the keyboard on startup.

Of course, if Jeffrey had nothing to do, it would only take him a couple of
weeks to read the code and find out for sure :)

Cheers

In perform searches on Input Method for the system and languages on the
Help and didn't find any reference to a link between the selected input
method and the selection of the proofing tool as far as Word is
concerned.
Looking at the documentation for the System input method I really don;t
see how there could be a link but you never know (I've seen weirder
things ;-) ).

That's definitively something to investigate. Thanks for reminding me
this possibility Daiya :)

Very interesting indeed. I didn't know Word used this for First-run.
Thanks for the info John,

Sure you can.

I don't think Jeroen Scheerder has any official status anywhere. We won't
mind for sure. There's certainly no problem using Entourage in these
microsoft newsgroups.
(and it doesn't display x-faces ;-) ).

Ah, gee. ;-)

:)) Yeah I now I can.
The actual reason is quite different as you know it. I can't live
without proper graphical representation of the threads. I personnally
think MacSoup is way behind in many many aspects (what kills me is the
lack of inline spell checker) but yet, I can't resolve to using anything
else for newsgroups and discussion lists.

I need a newsreader that properly analyses the threads to provide a
representation adn tag the "sub-trees" that I participated in. I look at
every single newsreader as soon as a new version comes out. I even used
HogWasher for a while, but no matter what I end up going back to
MacSoup.

It's for similar reason that I mostly use Eudora for e-mails. I hate a
LOT of things in this app, but there are just functions I could not live
without (and Eudora is the only app I've found thast can store all my
e-mails for the past 10 years or so without any slowdown and find any
e-mail through its search engine in a matter of a couple of seconds).

I won't say I'm happy with either app, but I'm sure are miserable with
the competition :'-(

In OS9, and not inline, I launch an ancient copy of SpellTools. But I
can't leave it running permanently because it increases the chance of
a hung machine while I'm using other apps.
