Connect Portfolio 2007 to Project Server 2007

I'm having this same issue. Authentication data undefined for
specified Project Server and current user. when I try to apply an
Attribute template. I have Project Server 2007 and Portfolio Server
2007 installed on the same server. DB server is separate.

I can access the link:
http://server01:56737/SharedServices1/PSI/project.asmx

but settings in Settings / Project Server Gateway / Project Server
Management of:
http://server01:56737/SharedServices1/PSI/ or http://server01:56737/SharedServices1/
give me the above error.

Also, I cannot get any domain accounts to login to the Portfolio
server successfully. If I add them in the Manage users section, domain
\ProjectAcct and set them for integrated authentication they cannot
log in. If I set them with a password they still cannot log in. The
only account I can get to log in at this point are accounts I create
without and domain\ in the name.

Anyone have any resolution updates?

Thanks

It turned out to be an issue with permissions to the database on the
SQL server. The account being used to configure template mapping was
an admin within Portfolio and Project server but did not have enough
rights to the db itself set in SQL.

Hi,
Did anybody find out how to configure Project Server Gateway because i still
have a problem with it.
My project server defininition is:
Project Server Web Service URL: http://olimp:56737/SharedServices1/
Project Web Access (PWA) URL: http://olimp:18019/PWA/
and it seems to be good but when i want to add Attribute Mapping Template i
recive an error massage:
The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.
best regards

This is how I got authentication going.

When you create a new user DO NOT tick "Integrated Authentication". To use
the account you have just created you needs to sign on to Windows as the
user. When you then go to http<servername)/portfolioserver you WILL NOT be
prompted for a username or password.

Hi Chewy,
Csn you elaborate on exactly which DB or object in the mgmt tool for which
you changed the permissions, and how? I'm not all that familiar but I think
this could fix my issues as well.
And does the NETWORK SERVICE need permissions to the SharedServices1 DB?

Ok,
Like everyone else this is driving me mad.
Setup is PSS +SQL+OPS on SAME VM server in a domain. Integrated auth
for everything.

Settings:
Authentication type Windows integrated authentication
Name DEW Project Server 2007 Description
Project Server Web Service URL http://act01projsvr02:5560/projectserver/PSI/
Project Web Access (PWA) URL http://act01projsvr02/pwa
Default user logon account [Windows integrated authentication]
Resource Type Custom Field Default Mapping Template
Project Server Language English (Australia)

When I try to setup attribute mapping templates I get:

Authentication data undefined for specified Project Server and current
user.

???what???
I am on the same server as an admin.
I dont know if the service URL is correct but its the best I could
work out from conflicting information.
The shared service is called ProjectServer and the Port for the
"Central Management' site is 5560....so I assume that is correct.

Has anyone worked this out?
Al.

I have been trying to get this to work since Feb and today I believe I have
got it working!!

My setup is PS2007 and PPs2007 on the same box and in a workgroup.
What I was missing was as Livia states below is the NT Authority\Network
Service in the users list. Below is a portion of text from a lab I used to
get it working - hope it helps. I used 2a.

2. Configuring WSS to allow the gateway to work correctly
2a.Configuring WSS to grant access to the Network Service account.

a. Launch the SharePoint Central Administration site on your Project Server
machine and click on Shared Services Administration

b. Next click on the Application Management tab and select Grant or
configure shared services between farms

c. Select the option, “This farm will provide shared services to other farmsâ€

d. In the Provide Shared Services section, specify the machine account in
the form of Domain\MachineName$

Tip: If PPS, SharePoint and ProjectServer are all installed on a single
server and is in a workgroup environment, specify the network service account
in the form of: NT AUTHORITY\network service

e. Click the Check Names icon and verify that the name is valid and click OK.

f. On your client machine close out all the IE windows and on the server
where PPS 2007 is installed, click on Start | Run and type IISReset

2.b. Configuring WSS to grant access to the domain account.

a. Launch the SharePoint Central Administration site on your Project Server
machine and click on Shared Services Administration

b. Click to the right of the SSP name and select Edit Properties

Note: If you have more than 1 SSP, make sure you select the SSP that is
hosting your Project Server site (should be the same SSP name as what was
defined in the Web Service URL)

c. In the Edit Shared Serviced Provider page, scroll to the bottom of the
page to the section: Process Accounts with access to this SSP and specify a
windows account that has administrative access to both Project Server as well
as SharePoint. E.g. domain\username

d. Click the Check Names icon to ensure that the account specified is valid
and click OK

The other thing I found out somewhere along the way is that if using windows
auth you have to go into preference and update the page – even though no
change has been made. Yep that's right, just go into the Pref's page and come
out again before you try to use the gateway

Hope this helps
