Database Lock

No, the Auto FE Updater copies across the entire FE file without
touching it other than determining the version of the FE
MDB/ACCDB/MDE/ACCDE.

Is it not clear to you, Tony, that Aaron does no more than very
superficially skim any post to which he responds? He doesn't even
know what you're talking about -- it hasn't registered that you're
discussing a utility that you wrote yourself.

He doesn't care.

oh, so it's the file copy process.. so you make your end users copy
over a 50mb frontend..

No. They do the work themselvs.
and a new blank tempdb..

No, I build those myself as required on the fly. See See the TempTables.MDB page at
my website which illustrates how to use a temporary MDB in your app.
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/temptables.htm
and anyone that builds custom queries-- gets them overwritten (without
notificiation)

Power users get their own MDB linked to the tables in the BE so they can query data
as they require. Nobody except the developers touch the FE objects.
sounds great, tony!

Thank you. I usually get about an email a week thanking me for making it avialable.
From some very large outfits too such as the US Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, Army,
Boeing. GM, Chrysler, Mercedes Benz, and many more names that anyone would
recognize.

Very clear

However spreading of misinformation and lies must countered with
facts.

Hitler was the most popular german president of all time.

It doesn't mean he was right.

You're a fucking retard, a shitty developer.. And you don't know jack
shit about relational design.

It's not efficient to copy over a 50mb frontend every time you launch
the app.

It's not efficient to make everyone get a new frontend every time you

David;

Do you really think that I don't know that?

It's a piece of shit utility.. because it's not thought out very well.

Indeed the utility only copies down the FE when a new version of the FE is placed on
the server to be copied down.

You also shouldn't be sharing ADPs either so the same philosophy applies there as
well.

ADPs aren't 50mb.. because you don't need to store all the lookup
tables, and all the queries-- 100 different places

and I'll just put an ADP in someone's home directory.. it's just plain
easier to deploy (because it works across _ALL_ networks)

Jet doesn't work across WAN, LAN, Wireless and VPN

The linked tables and queries in an Access MDB/ACCDB would typically take less than
5% of an MDB so that's not an issue.
