Well, what it comes down to, I don't think the problem is MS changing
the defult settings, but the problem is, those people who want to change
it to their old settings they are used to from Word 2000/2002/2003
everytime open a document, it is a nightmare and a pain in the arse to
do so or else i'd not be here. If MS had made it easier for a user
change these default settings, it would have not been much of a problem.
?? I'm certainly not a power user of Word but figured out how to get
single line spacing in typical docs in about 10 secs. Open Normal.dotm
available in the Open/Trusted Templates. Right click on the doc and
select Paragraph, make your required changes, Save and Close. I don't
know who MS could have made it much easier than that?

I think you may have understood me which is my fault for writing the
wording wrong. Sorry about that as English isn't my first language. but
what we were trying to accomplish (and did) was changing the default
double-spacing of 2007 to single-space so that every single time we
CREATE and open a new document after words, it would open up as a
single-spaced document by default.

I still tried your method out of curiosity and it didn't work but maybe
i didn't do it right or like i said my bad worded post that caused you
to misunderstand.

Another way of doing it.

On "Home" tab, at Styles" Right click on the "Normal" Style and select
"Modify", set/adjust as you see fit, then Click the box that says "New
documents based on this template" and click OK.

Hi Potgut,

There are a number of ways to make the change from the 1.15 spacing in Word 2007 (improved on screen readability) to the previous
version.

Home tab=>Styles=>Change Styles=>Style Set
then Choose Word 2003, then repeat
Home tab=>Styles=>Chagne Sytles=>Set as Default

If it's not sticking it may be that the template (Normal.dotM by default) is either (a) not being updated, or if in a corporate
environment, may be getting reset/overwritten on login/startup. Keep in mind that you may want to do this to an attached global
template, as Normal.dotM is regenerated by MS Word for a variety of scenarios and isn't intended to be a shared template.

I too noticed a double spacing between the lines the moment I starte
using Word 2007. Considering the fact I have been using Word for years
leave it up to the nut bags @ MS to change it for “better readability
reasons. Sounds like someone decided to cater to the weak…

Anyway, after beating my head against the wall I finally got Word 200
to act JUST LIKE ITS PREDACESSORS.

Follow these steps:
1. In the Paragraph section, click on the Line spacing button (it’
basically located in the center of the screen across the top)
2. From the drop-down menu, select the ‘Line Spacing Options…’ option
3. On the Paragraph window in the ‘Spacing’ section set the value fo
‘After:’ to ‘0 pt’
4. At the bottom of the Window, press the ‘Default’ button (if you d
not do this step, then you’ll have to do steps 1~3 each time you open
new document)
5. Select the ‘Ok’ button

Viola!

it would be nice if you shared your fix with those of us that are not
experts and may have the same problem...
Yeah, **** him.

Anyway, you can always click on the Home tab and select -No Spacing-
or you can adjust the spacing; per instructions here:

Code
-------------------
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2006/07/19/stop-word-2007-from-adding-space-between-lines
-------------------

Also, you can edit the default template, *normal.dotm* located in

Code
-------------------
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Template
-------------------

... Just right-click and select *Open* & all of the settings you chang
and then save that file will stick as default. :)

P.S. dud_gorgon, nice 'post
