| Well, well, well, you know the show well enouth to remember that the last
| thing said on most shows, was "Good night John Boy." You either watched
the
| show in the 70s or you like old shows?
|
| I am 66, so if you watched it, then you have to be at least 55. Probably
a
| lousy guess, and it doesn't matter how you are anyway.
|
| Just keep up the great work helping we floundering web creators.
|
| Best, Thomboy
|
| PS Will be back at the watering hole on April 8th.

Thomboy

I have been gone for four weeks, but am back now ready to get back to work.

Say hello, Gracie!

That's not my line, George.

Hi David:

I am back from the swamps of the Bayou, and came within 20 feet of a 15 foot
alligator while paddling a kayak down this tributary into the main bayou
swamp. Then, I get back home and while helping to clear some brush in an
overgrown field close to my home, I came within two feet of being bitten by a
five foot diamond back rattlesnake.

I think I am safer working on my website :)

I have another question......

-------------------

I have mastered FileZilla, at least enough to transfer my saved .pub file to
the website in the form of "index_files," but for some reason I cannot upload
the home page (index.htm).

Not to sound too much like a neophyte, here is what I do:

1. I open "my computer," and and one of the icon folders on the right is
"ftp.lcn-hoa.com (my website)" which I open to examine the contents--shown
below:
_db_backups
index_files
stats
gdform.asp
index.htm
welcome.html

2. Now, the above contents are shown on the right side of my desktop screen.

3. I then open my .pub file for my Publisher 2007 webpage (on the left side
of the screen, under "my computer"), and can see only one item, as shown
below:
index_files.

I know that when one saves his work in the .pub file, all the changes are
ready for uploading to the website, using FileZilla.

4. Now, I drag and drop the index_files from the left side of my desktop
(under My Compuer) to the right side, and the contents of this updated
"index_files" replaces the website "index_files" inside of ftp.lcn-hoa.com
(my website).

5. The new index_files replaces ftp.lcn-hoa.com "index_files" on the right
side of my desktop, which does happen, because the time and date reflect the
changes made to my .pub file.

QUESTION: Where is the home page located (index.htm) so I can drag and drop
this file onto the right side of my desktop to replace the home page
(index.htm) file shown among the six items in #1 above.

When I use FileZilla, all the changed items in (index_files) from my .pub
file immediately replace the changed website pages to reflect that which I
saved when I made the changes to my .pub file.

I may NOT be doing the uploading correctly, but my method seems to work OK.
All that is left is to find the "index.htm" file among the open files and
folders on the left side of my desktop (under "computer") and drag it into
the right side of the desktop, and then use filezilla to get the job done.

Did I give you too much information??

Thanks for the help, Thomboy

ready for uploading to the website, using FileZilla.

4. Now, I drag and drop the index_files from the left side of my desktop
(under My Compuer) to the right side, and the contents of this updated
"index_files" replaces the website "index_files" inside of ftp.lcn-hoa.com
(my website).

5. The new index_files replaces ftp.lcn-hoa.com "index_files" on the right
side of my desktop, which does happen, because the time and date reflect
the
changes made to my .pub file.

QUESTION: Where is the home page located (index.htm) so I can drag and
drop
this file onto the right side of my desktop to replace the home page
(index.htm) file shown among the six items in #1 above.

When I use FileZilla, all the changed items in (index_files) from my .pub
file immediately replace the changed website pages to reflect that which I
saved when I made the changes to my .pub file.

I may NOT be doing the uploading correctly, but my method seems to work
OK.
All that is left is to find the "index.htm" file among the open files and
folders on the left side of my desktop (under "computer") and drag it into
the right side of the desktop, and then use filezilla to get the job done.

Did I give you too much information??

Thanks for the help, Thomboy

Yes, you did answer this question, and here it is.

OK, there is a function in the .pub file called "Publish to the Web," but
since I use FileZilla to move output from my .pub file to my website
(ftp.lcn-hoa.com) folder, why use "publish to the web"? Maybe this is the
only way to update the home page, or index.htm?

I don't remember seeing any option when I clicked on "Publish to the Web"
that says, "save output to hard drive," or did I miss it?

I assume I can merely create a new folder (with a name like "Output from Pub
to Web") inside my main HOA Website Folder where I now use publisher 2007 to
create my .pub folder.

Sorry that I seem to be so dense, but when I click on "Publish to the Web" I
don't see any option to send the output to any folder on my hard drive???

Also, what does the acronym "FWIW" mean??

Pretty soon you will understand why I took a kayak into a bayou swamp with
alligators--just plain dense!!

I'm a Publisher 2000 user and in it, under the File menu is the choice,
"Save as a web page". This creates the website files to be saved at the
location of choice on your hard drive. I also use FileZilla to transfer
files to the server; 'great ftp.

For "FWIW" is short scratch for "For what its worth."

Open your Publisher file, Publish to the Web, and when the Save In dialog
comes up look in the left column. Click Desktop if you happened to put the
"Output..."folder on the Desktop...click My Documents if the folder is
there, otherwise click My Computer and drill down to where the folder is and
open that folder, and Save In that folder.

Many thanks, Don. The same holds true in Publisher 2007, but I have to admit
not knowing its purpose, but now I do.

Also, thanks for the abbreviation page. I always wondered what some
acronyms meant, and now I will be able to look them up from this two page
list. I wonder if when I begin to use them profusely, the recipients will be
lost too.

Best, Thomboy

Thank you again David for providing the roadmap for me.

Hang in there, and thanks for helping all we greenhorns :)
