Duplicate Emails

Diane Ross

dear bill, i really appreciate your responding to my problem. i
have

Not sure if this is a clue, but your message was received twice on the
newsgroup. The first one came in at 6:09 and the duplicate at 6:13.
User-Agent: G2/1.0 for both messages. Are you forwarding an account to
Gmail?

Your third message with this reply:

<quote>
Most of these duplicates are coming from emails i send from my iphone
for some reason. i just noticed the correlation with my iphone for
most. why would that be? jeff</quote>

This message came in at 12:23 and there was no duplicate.

Since you are using multiple sources, did you use the same source for all
emails? What was different about the last message that did not duplicate?

Hope this helps!

Great idea, but the duplicate was my mistake and not some setting that
caused it. I have done more testing and the email issue is almost
solely an issue with my email that i send from my iphone. not only do
duplicates sometimes (but not often) show in my sent items box but
most importantly the emails are always unreadable because of
formatting issues. the recipients receive the emails in an acceptable
format. for example, if i email myself the email looks fine in my
inbox, but is almost unreadable in my sent items folder. the emails
also look just fine in my Outlook sent items folder. the only
formatting issue occurs in my entourage sent items folder. by
formatting i mean there is gibberish in the body of the emails, and
not just what was sent. if a cut and paste of an example email would
help please let me know. jeff

there is gibberish in the body of the emails,

You can try this fix for gibberish problems. Most likely there

Text is gibberish.

Quit Entourage. Delete these files in Users/[YourUserName]/Library/Caches.
Restart Entourage.

com.microsoft.browserfont.cache
tasmanbrowser.cache
if a cut and paste of an example email would
help please let me know.

Under Source in the Menu bar, could you paste that into a reply. You can
edit the text and actual addresses as xxxx for privacy.

Here is what you asked for Diane. I just sent a test email from my
iPhone. Here is the results of - Entourage-Message-Source-Copy-
Paste. Of course I did this for the email in my "Sent" folder. The
exact same email in my "Inbox" displayed perfectly (my .com address
gets automatically forwarded to my .biz address). Go figure that??
It is unedited. Thanks!! Jeff

By the way Diane, I just noticed that the email in the sent box is
formatted exactly like the source-cut-paste that you just had me do.
The received copy in my inbox is formatted properly like all other
email. What does this mean do you think? Jeff

One thing you can do is use plain text and not html for sending until we can
find out what causes the problem.

The other thing I see is it's going through Microsoft Exchange V6.5. I
imagine the problems are occurring there.

The best way to find out what's happening is to check source of message in
each application to see what might be going wrong. Especially check these
lines:
Content-class: urn:content-classes:message

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/html;
        charset="iso-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

The iPhone uses might be able to help with this. If you ask again and use
iPhone in the subject you might catch the attention of iPhone users. Many
people will can the topics to see one they can help answer. Put the most
important words at the beginning of the subject since long subjects are
truncated in most newsreaders.

BTW, you can use the Entourage newsreader to view this newsgroup. I see you
are using Google.

If you use a newsreader rather than the Mactopia interface to this newsgroup
you can download old messages and search for answers. If you are not
familiar with a newsreader, Entourage's basic newsreader already has the
Microsoft News server included. All you do is subscribe to the newsgroups
you want. See this article for help subscribing using the Entourage
newsreader:

Thanks Bill. You have resolved my issue. I am sorry it took so long
for my acknowledgement but I was out of town. Thanks again to you,
Diane and the other volunteers that make this group a success! Jeff

By the way Bill, what I did was to use one of the AppleScripts from
the blog you directed me to. I then set up a rule that would apply it
to all items that were sent from my iPhone so they will show up
correctly formatted in my sent items folder. As my sent email flows
to my sent items folder they are automatically re-formatted. It
works like a dream - automatically without my intervention. That was
my first experience in using an AppleScript. Thanks again for a great
job. Jeff
