Entourage automatically crashes

Diane Ross

Ive had problems with entourage 2004 crashes, tried new identity, and rebuild
data base...no luck..

upgraded to 2008 thinking that would solve the issue...No luck...Entourage
will open once when I RESTART computer, hang in for a while then quit. If i
try to restart from dock the menu appears but I cannot view mail, etc.

Since this is happening in both Office 2004 and Office 2008, I'm suspecting
your base system files. Did this start after you installed Leopard?
Any ideas would be great.. Im using a powerbook g4 with leopard OS...

1) run- Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update

<http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1052comboupdate.html>

2) Problem go away? If no, then check these options:
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/crashes.html#_2_crashes>

How did you install Leopard?

There are 3 types of installs:

1. Upgrade Mac OS X (the default upgrade method)*
2. Archive and Install
3. Erase and Install

* Just because it's the default doesn't mean it's the best option.

This page describes what each method does:

Options to Install Leopard
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/leo_options.html>

If you used Upgrade and the combo updater did not fix your problems you
might need to do an "Archive & Install".

Next is "Archive & Install" and if that doesn't work, then you will need to
do an "Erase & Install."

Hi Diane -

here is the exact message:

You cannot install Mac OS X Update Combined on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.

How do i do archive and install...is that a command from Entourage ?

You cannot install Mac OS X Update Combined on this volume. This volume does
not meet the requirements for this update.

Make sure you got the correct updater.

Make sure you have enough space on your HD. A bare minimum is 10% of total
drive space.

See links at the bottom for combo updaters.

No, it's part of the Mac OS install.

Archive and Install

1) Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc and double-click the Install Mac OS X
icon.

2) Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select the
destination disk, select your current Mac OS X disk (in most cases, it will
be the only one available).

3) Click Options. If you want to save your existing files, users, and
network settings, select ³Archive and Install,² and then select ³Preserve
Users and Network Settings.² If you want to erase everything on your
computer and reinstall Mac OS X, select ³Erase and Install.² You can¹t
recover erased data.

4) Click Continue.

5) Click Customize to select which parts of Mac OS X you¹d like to install,
or click Install to perform a basic installation (recommended).

Once the install has finished, your system will be at whatever level the
disk you have is. So if your Install DVD/CD disk is 10.5.0, that's what
version of OS will be on your Mac. You will need to download the appropriate
Combo Updater from Apple's site to restore the system to a higher version.
After you run the combo, allow Software Update to download and install any
additional updates.
