Fax - Office 2003

Peggy

I cannot setup fax. I am using Windows XP Pro and Office 2003. In trying to
find a solution, I find there are many people online with the same problem.
Is there a solution OR did Microsoft really screw up with office 2003 and fax
capabilities? Please help

No MS hasn't screwed up anything.

Have you installed the drivers for your FAX and appropriate software
that came with it. If not then either you can use the CD that came with
the fax machine or use Windows XP CD to install the generic
communications software.

Windows does not install optional software automatically!! What am I
saying? Optional can't be automatic can it?

The generic communications software on Windows XP Pro Cd will not install and
that is the fax software I was using with Office 2002. Now, with Office 2003,
the generic will not install. I tried Microsoft's fix and it declares that I
am not a Small Business. Office 2002 did not present this problem. I am at my
wit's end trying to find a solution. When I try to setup my faxing, these are
the drivers it is unable to find on the xppro cd:

Fxscfgwz.dll
Fxsclntr.dll

I go to Printers and Faxes and click on set up faxing.
I am then prompted to put in my Windows XP Professional CD-Rom.
It then wants to look into D:\i386. I click ok and it won’t recognize the CD.
I then tried E:\i386 and no success there either.
If I browse the XP Pro CD, it looks for fxscount.h; fxscount.h_
and can't find it.

I researched this and I am led to this site:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=884032
Update is available for the Windows Small Business Server 2003 Client Setup
feature to deploy Windows XP Service Pack 2 to Windows XP Professional-based
clients.

I downloaded the file and tried to install it will not install because it
does not recognize me as a Windows Small Business! Feels like a Catch 22.

This site is another one I keep being led to:

I was trying to use the Office 2003 CD. In the meantime, I had downloaded and
installed the 2 drivers - big mistake. When I started using the Win xp pro CD
to set up faxing, it could not copy the needed files. I then deleted the
drivers I had downloaded and the fax setup when very smoothly. In the process
of all of this, I talked with a friend of mine who was also having problems
setting up faxing. His problem was the same but the cause was different. He
determined that he was trying to use two different sp packs. I appreciate
your response. Thanks and mayve this will help others I have run across on
the internet who are also having problems setting up faxing.
