FP2002 extensions

Tom Willett

The FP 2002 server extensions for Win2K3 are different than the others.
They must be installed from the CD. Other versions will not work.

BTW, the extensions are no longer available for download. MS considers them
out of lifecycle and cupport.

It may be a disaster requiring the reinstallation of Windows.

The only download available is for 64 bit operating systems. If your
Windows 2003 is 32bit you MUST use the version on the CD - no download
is available for this.

On the other hand, if you have 64bit Windows 2003, you cannot use the CD
since the extensions are not there - you must use the downloaded 64bit
version.

thanks guys,

i realized after i made the post that while i found the instructions i
didn't actually find a place to download the extension from. now i know why.

i will rustle up the cd and hopefully everything will work ok.

thanks again

ok. i guess this is my day for being stupid.

i found out we are running iis 5.0 on a windows 2000 server. it has the fp
extensions installed for frontpage 2000.

i am using fp 2002 to maintain our site, which we host.

i have the windows server 2003 standard edition cd. how do i update the fp
extensions to fp2002 using the windows server 2003.

tia

R

Ronx

You upgrade the server to Windows 2003 :)
Windows 2000 requires the downloaded version of extensions, which is no
longer available.

FrontPage 2002 will work with FP2000 extensions, but some features
(including file upload, custom link bars) will not be available. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281532 for the full list.

On the Windows 2003 Server CD, you have the FP2002 extensions available when you install/configure
IIS.

....keeping in mind that the FP2002 extensions on the Windows 2003 server CD
can only be used on Windows 2003, not Windows 2000 server.

Nothing on that page indicates you can install them on Win2K. They are
proprietary for Windows 2003.

if you click on the link on the Note line: "Front Page 2002 Server Extensions
Requirements", it will take you to another page that i thought was the one i
gave. here is the part i was trying understand from that page
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows software requirements
To run FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions, you must first install the
following software on your server:

• Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition,
configured as a Web Application Server

– or –

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server edition with Microsoft Internet Information
Services (IIS) 5.0 or later with the World Wide Web service installed

– or –

Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 6a or later and Microsoft
Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0 or later with the World Wide Web
service installed

• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later

– or –

Netscape Navigator version 4 or later

R

Ronx

As far as I can see, those pages tell you the hardware requirements for
FP2002 extensions (though it misses Windows XP Pro which will also run
them), and provides instructions for installing them on Windows 2003.
The installation on all other OSs is different - see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294826
Note that the download the article refers to was withdrawn in July 2006.

Hello, I am a novice when it comes to servers and extensions, so please bear
with me. I am running Frontpage 2003 on my XP Pro (SP2) PC. one of the Front
Page features I would like access to is the custom link navigation bars. Can
you please give me explicit instructions to install/upgrade whatever I have
now (I think it is Front Page Extensions 2000) to the 2002 Extensions? I am
using IIS 5.1 The site I publish to has (at least) FPSE 2002.

btw - I found both fp4awel.dll and fp5awel.dll on my hard drive and monkeyed
around with
command line install attempts (only to break things).

I have the Frontpage 2003 CD (sleeve says "windows small business server
2003, premium edition". I don't recall any manuals coming with the cd (but
it's been awhile since I installed).

I have the original XP Pro Cd and a CD with XP Pro SP2 that I created from
the original CD.

Thank you very much for any help.

FrontPage extensions (any version) are no longer available for Windows
XP (which runs IIS5.1), so you have to use FP2000 extensions from the
Windows XP disc - these do not support custom link bars.

<Quote>
FrontPage Server Extensions 2002:

"The FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 web download is not available
anymore from the Microsoft web sites. This is due to the fact that the
mainstream support for FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 web download
which follows the Office XP/FrontPage 2002 life cycle expired on
7/11/2006. The following article explains the timelines:

http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=1902

However, we understand that customers might need this download in
situations where existing FPSE2002 installations are hampered in one way
or the other. Considering this, it may be possible to obtain this
download for reinstallation purposes only if you call MS support."

</Quote>

Note the last paragraph.

thank you for your reply. Even though support is withdrawn, can someone
please tell
me how to accomplish what I want to do (install FP 2002 Server Extensions)?

Ron, does your quote <it may be possible to obtain this download for
reinstallation purposes only if you call MS support."> mean that I can get
assistance only by calling MS Support? If so, can you please give
me the bet number to call and what options I should select? I don't mind
paying for the answer and having
the correct phone number will save me a lot of time. Thank you.

I think I have the FPSE 2002 "materials" available (fp5awel.dll and related
files) on my PC already. All I need
is instructions how to install. Thank yo.

If you have the FP 2002 server extensions, (the installation file is
fpse02_x86_ENG.exe) installation instructions are here:
