FP2002 extensions

Instructor Cloud

I have a class that I teach on FrontPage 2003 that requires 2002 Extensions
otherwise some of the exercises don't work. Is there a way to get these
extensions without having to spend an hour on hold with MS Support?

Is it legal for someone to send me the .exe file if they have it? If this
would be considered piracy for some reason, THEN I DO NOT WANT IT. I'll just
go through the "proper channels". Being a training center, our management is
super strict on illegally copying anything. It's grounds for immediate
termination.

This series of posts have been really helpful. Thanks to all of you who
added questions, answers and suggestions!

No, it is not "legal" for someone to supply you with the file.

The people hosting the web server are the ones that have to install the extensions, if the servers
are Windows 2003, then they have the FP2002 extensions on the Windows 2003 CD.

Let me preface these questions ... I know very little about FrontPage and
even less about FrontPage Server Extensions. However, I've become the new
owner of these products at my company (as well as a bunch of other MS
products). I'm trying to best to understand what we have in place today
based on our inventory system information.

So - that being said - my first question is this. Based on what I've read
in this thread, I'm under the impression that FrontPage xx Server Extension
versions become unsupported at the same time as their FrontPage xx version
does. For example - FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions will reach EOL when
FrontPage 2002 does. Right?

Second Question - do the FrontPage Server Extensions ONLY install as part of
another install (for instance FrontPage or a development tool such as Visual
Studio, etc.)? So for license tracking; version/security patching; etc. - is
this a separate item that needs to be tracked or is it covered under the main
product that installed it?

Thanks!
M~

1st Question:
FP 2002 server extensions (which are currently the latest version), except
for those that come with Windows 2003 service have already reached EOL.

However, that doesn't mean that many hosts have quit using them. It just
means they are no longer supported or available for download.

FrontPage 2002 is also EOL.

2nd Question: FP server extensions are a separate install.

And the FP server extensions are really a part of IIS / Windows, not FrontPage as FP2002.

|
Based on what I've read
| in this thread, I'm under the impression that FrontPage xx Server
Extension
| versions become unsupported at the same time as their FrontPage xx version
| does. For example - FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions will reach EOL when
| FrontPage 2002 does. Right?
|
| Second Question - do the FrontPage Server Extensions ONLY install as part
of
| another install (for instance FrontPage or a development tool such as
Visual
| Studio, etc.)? So for license tracking; version/security patching; etc. -
is
| this a separate item that needs to be tracked or is it covered under the
main
| product that installed it?
|
| Thanks!

Except the ownership of FP server extensions (except the Windows 2003 server
version) was transferred to Office, who gave it the EOL and support ;-)

I didn't realize they had been transferred back to Office. Thanks for the update.

Sorry for my naiveté with this ... but one more follow up question if I
may... Based on this, I think I'm reading that FP Server Extensions are not
a part of Front Page (as of the 2002 version). So - if I went to my local
Staples and tried to purchase Front Page Server Extensions ... would I find
it? Is that its own licensed stand-alone product? Or can I only get it via
another product - IIS; Visual Studio; etc.?

Thanks!

|
Based on what I've read
| in this thread, I'm under the impression that FrontPage xx Server
Extension
| versions become unsupported at the same time as their FrontPage xx version
|
|
| Thanks!

The server extensions were available as part of FP98 (FPSE98), FP2000 (FPSE2000), Windows XP Pro OS
(FPSE2000), and Windows 2003 Server OS (FPSE2002).

The FPSE 2002 and updates were available via MS Downloads when FP2002 was released, however the
FPSEs are no longer available for downloading and are only available with Windows 2003 Server.

The FPSE where never available as a separate retail package.

You only need them locally if you are running Windows 2000/XP Pro or Windows 2000 / 2003 Server and
want to work in a web server environment.

You web host must install/support them on their server for you to be able to access the your
live/remote server via FP's http mode, however if you do not use any of the features that require
the FP extensions, then you don't need them.

Thanks!

And the FP server extensions are really a part of IIS / Windows, not FrontPage as FP2002.

|
Based on what I've read
| in this thread, I'm under the impression that FrontPage xx Server
Extension
| versions become unsupported at the same time as their FrontPage xx version
|
|
| Thanks!
