The problem with troubleshooting Exchange is that the issues are very
dependent on server configuration and network topology and it is difficult
if not impossible for others to attempt to reproduce the exact conditions.
And unfortunately even if you discover the problem (e.g. SMTP is turned
off), it's not always fixable since some changes require a server reconfig.

I couldn't agree more!!!!!!!

That goes for POP account send & receive problems. There are so many
variables that it is difficult to do anything but offer troubleshooting
tips.

True, but POP is usually more standard (at least more than Excahnge).

Hello Corentin,

I must, reverting back to the manual settings given to me by my IT guy has
allowed me to be able to receive my Exchange mail remotely. I must say,
that when Entourage discovers the Exchange servers, the entry it puts in
the Exchange Server fields is different than what my network admin
provided me. Entourage discovers ABC-EXCHANGE whereas the manual edit is
abc-exchange.abc.com. Odd, eh?

Hi again Corentin and Diane,

Note: Since recreating my Exchange account in Entouarge, I've been able to
send/receive my Exchange email when working remote from home (not
connected to the network). I do believe that perhaps at some point, it is
therefore necessary to empty the cache, delete the account, and start all
over again. I'm sure many will say that sucks, but I've got over 5000
pieces of email to have to synch that having access to is very important,
so the hours I must spend doing this as necessary is worth it.

I have NEVER been able to find a machine that worked with the "detected"
settings. For me, it had only worked through manual configuration...

It could be useful. I've had problems like that that I couldn't fix and
I also ended up deleting my original account and re-creating it.

Well, the good thing with Exchange is that the e-mail are stored on the
server. Deleting the account doesn't delete the messages.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the information Eric,
