FrontPage password protection & site editing help needed

S

SteveP

Last night I triple checked extensions and they are installed. Looked
through every option I could find to help remote editing.

Nothing worked until I came across a chapter in a reference book that
suggested to open FP and import the web. Work on it and publish the changes.

I was able to import the site onto my workstation.

Also turned on basic authentication.

Still cannot make changes live on the server. More suggestions, please?

Just to clarify...

The server is a Windows XP Pro machine or is it a regular Windows 2000 / 2003 Server?

Windows 2003 standard server SP1 running IIS.

This beginning website is all this server does. Can't develope the site
until all works right and that's the problem.

Did the OS come with SP1 update or did you install SP1 update separated? If you installed the SP1
update, uninstall it and see if you can access the default web site, etc. via FP

You also may want to post to the Windows 2003 Server newsgroup.

Hello Steve,

From your feedback, it seems that you are not prompt for user name and
password even you use FrontPage to open the site. If this is not correct,
please let me know.

Based on my research, this problem occurs if the User Authentication
setting for the Internet zone is set to Anonymous logon in Microsoft
Internet Explorer. The Internet Explorer settings control the way that you
log on to a remote server.

To work around this problem, please follow these steps:

1. Use either of the following methods to open the Internet Options dialog
box:

o Use FrontPage:
a. Start FrontPage.
b. On the Tools, click Options.
c. Click the General tab, and then click Proxy Settings.

o Use Internet Explorer:
a. Start Internet Explorer.
b. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

2. Click the Security tab.
3. Under Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings, click
Internet, and then click Custom Level.
4. Under Settings, click Prompt for user name and password under User
Authentication.
5. Click OK two times.

For more information, please see the article below:

905428 You are not prompted for a user name and for a password when you use
FrontPage to publish a Web site or to open a Web page on a remote server

Hope this helps.
