hang and crash with old presentations

I have more or less the same problem, ie a Powerpoint X presentation
that I use all the time. it has loads of graphics and audio so I don't
know for sure which file is crshing it now when opening in Powerpoint
2004 11.1.1 but it still opens fine on a PC.

When you say "I copied a new version of the file" and it "works OK on
every other Mac I own" what does that mean?

Is it that a duplicate of the original file will open, but only on
other computers?

I have discovered that sometimes when you transfer a file from a Mac to
thumbdrive and then to another Mac funny things can happen. This is what
happened. I copied the file from the MAC at work again, where the file was
opening properly, and this time when I saved it to my MAC at home the
powerpoint file will open as well. I am now very wary about transferring
large powerpoint files with a thumbdrive from MAC to MAC. I guess I'll have
to shell out for a iPod!

Hi,

If you transferred via a read-only media such as a CD, then it's
possible that the file permissions were changed to read-only.

You can check this by using Finder's GET INFO command on the files and
folders. It's best to start with a folder. You can use GET INFO to
change permissions to READ & WRITE and there's a button if you are doing
a folder that lets you pass the same permissions onto the folder's
contents (a handy thing).
