Help with Publisher 2000

LynnieB

Hi,
I have created a website with publisher 2000 (the only thing that I have and
can afford) and it has always worked. I have made changes to a few of the
pages and when I tried to go back into the publisher file it keeps crashing.
I have it on a cd and it says that it is there but if you try and opoen it it
keeps crashing the program. I have tried other computers with the programs
and the same thing happens. Is there any way to fix this without having to
re-build the entire site?

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

Copy it (all files) to your hardrive, then make sure the file attributes are
not set to Read Only.
Then work with the files from the hardrive not the CD...see if that works.

I have copied it and all of the files to my hard drive and when I go to open
it it shows me the background of page 1 and then crashes. Any other
suggestions? I can open it with frontpage 2000 but cannot make any changes to
it.

Thanks, I have tried to do this and it opens page 1 and shows the background
and then crashes again. Any other suggestions?

Did you remove the Read Only attributes from all files once you have them on
your hd?

Right click on the file in Explorer and choose Properties, if its set to
Read Only...uncheck that box. You can do this to all the files at once but
selecting them all at once.

Then browse to that folder with Internet Explorer and open the homepage with
that, see if it functions.

Also open it again with Publisher and see what happens.

I have removed the read only attributes and it opens the first page, shows
the background image and then crashes. It says Microsoft Publisher 2000
version 6.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
the inconvenience.

Sumpin' bad must have happened when you burned it to the CD. Can you open
the original file on your hd, or are you saying that that doesn't exist any
longer?

What's the URL to the website?

Rob,

The OP says that she could open the file in FrontPage 2000. Can you open a
*.*pub file in FrontPage? Or is it possible she is trying to open the
index.html file in Publisher?

DavidF

R

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

I missed the FP part.

Yes, you can open a pub web in FP...but you gotta have a lotta
beer/time/patience if you want to try to edit it (actually it's almost
impossible I think).

That's kinda why I asked about the URL, I may be able to grab some of it for
her.

To be clear, I know you can open a index.htm or html files with FrontPage,
but are you saying that you can open a .pub file with FrontPage...a .pub
file in Publisher format? And I was wondering if the OP was trying to open
her HTML output rather than her original .pub file?

DavidF

R

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

You can open a Pub generated website - not the Pub file used to create the
web.

Thanks...that's what I would have assumed. That means that if the OP opened
the "file" with FrontPage, she is not opening the original Publisher file,
and that is probably her mistake. Hopefully she still has access to the Pub
file.

ok, we seem to be getting confused :)
let's back up a bit;

What files are you trying to open with what program? The original Pub files?

| Hi Rob,
| The URL to the website is www.yogacanada.org
| I have tried to open it from the hard-drive but it freezes and shuts down.

I am trying to open the orignial publisher file, to make changes to it.
(which ends in .pub) Everytime I try to open it, the first page background
shows and then the message "Microsoft Publisher 2000 Version 6.0 has
encountered a problem and needs to close"
