HOW DO I OBTAIN A REPLACEMENT CD-KEY?

U

uRmySunshine

My CD-Key is not ledgible anymore on the sticker on the CD due to being in
storage cut the CD itself works find. It installed but with the exception of
when I try to use either Word, Excel, Acess, Powerpoint or Outlook, it asks
me for the 25 Digit CD-Key or OEM Number. (whichever you want to call it). I
do have an 800 number for Microsoft but there is a fee and I do not have a
credit card to use for that purpose so I'm LOST.

Can ANYONE, ANYONE AT ALL - HELP ME ?????

contact info: (e-mail address removed)

(229) 594-3696 (Albany, Georgia - I'm giving out my telephone number, THIS
is how desperate I am to resolve this problem.

I'M DESPERATE, PLEASE ANYONE HELP IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. I simply cannot
afford to purchase another copy of Office 2000, that is just NOT possoble.
There has to be a way to resolve this issue but so far, I haven't found one.
I did download the suggested program called Belarc but since my copy of
Office 2000 isn't actually installed, it did not read the OEM Number. So
that failed. -

SOMEBODY, ANYBODY - PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!

Assuming you have a retail copy, this is how it has to be done:

Replacement of CD or Product Keys

To replace a CD or Product Key, you must contact Product Service Support. To
locate the appropriate phone number for your product, visit the following
Microsoft Web site:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;CNTACTMS

Hi There,

My question about the website "magicjellybean.com" is will it give me the CD
Key if the MS Office CD is not already properly installed on my system. See,
I installed it w/out any problems but just by-passed the 25 digit Key Code
and let it go on and finish the installation. Now it's only when I try to
open any of the programs that it asks me for the Key Code again.

Will this website still find the code in this situation that my system is in
? Just wondering before I try and THANK YOU SO MUCH, you gave the most
helpful and creative response that I received so thanks a bunch once again.
Please respond ASAP if at all possible. Joy

Thanks for the reply Mary but this Kb article doesn't apply to Microsoft
Office 2000 Professional Edition. I did look at my registry tho just the
same - any other suggestions? I still haven't solved the problem.

You can still try calling MS. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

That does not work for Office 2000, nor does any other program that
retrieves CD keys. Apparently Office 2000 does not actually store the CD
key in the registry, even in encrypted form.

You did say Office 2000, right? Unfortunately, there is no program that
can retrieve the CD key whether the suite has been properly installed or
not.

Professional. I still haven't fixed the problem and I have tried all of
these suggestions, anything else - anyone at all ???

Oh yea, I forgot, if you will read after you click on "KeyFinder" at the
magicaljellybean.com website, it will direct you to "frequently asked
questions". In those questions someone asks why the keyfinder does not find
Office 2000 so obviously, it doesn't work on exactly what I am in need of.
Go Figure.

Any other help you can think of ??

Dear Gary,

Does this mean that I cannot find the information that I am needing or do
you have another suggestion ?

Thanks, Joy

If I had a credit card to use, I would have called them like "yesterday" but
I don't and that is the only way that I can use that 800 number. Again,
thanks for your time and help just the same.

Why is that? Or are you outside of the US?

No key, no install that works..

Time to upgrade, methinks.. an upgrade only requires a key for the higher
level software, so a lack of a key for Office 2000 won't matter anyway..

Reading the answers it appears that you may not be able to replace the key,
I'm not sure keys for Office 2000 are available any more?

Try this:

http://openoffice.org.

It's free and it's compatible to a great extent so give it a try and if you
don't like it delete it. You'll be out nothing but some time.

Yes, they are - or at least still were as of spring of this year. I
suggested she call but she said something about needing a credit card to
call an 800 number. I don't know why she would think that but I did suggest
she call.

JoAnn,

The 800 number that I have for Microsoft is "fee based", 800-936-5700, you
can only get help for a charge and you can only pay using a credit card.
Maybe I'm missing something here but that is what it said when I called it.
If you have different information, please let me know.

Someone who wrote to me right before your response suggested that I upgrade.
Ya know what, that is all fine and good IF I had the money to do so. If an
upgrade is free, someone please let me know. I'm sure it's not tho. Thank
you for your help and patience JoAnn, you've been great. Hope to hear from
you soon if you have other phone info to give me for help. Joy

Mike, if you have other suggestions as to how I can upgrade at no cost,
please let me know. I would truly appreciate it. My knowledge of
"upgrading" is that I need to go out and PURCHASE a newer copy of MS Office
or download a newer copy that COSTS and I DO NOT have the cash to do so at
this time, that is why I am running around crazily trying to get the copy
that I already have to work once again.

It crashed a while back and I had to clean the hard drive and then
re-install everything, and well, you know the rest of the story. When I went
to get my MS Office 2000 Pro out of storage to reinstall it, I realized that
I did not have the Product Key to reinstall it with. (the yellow sticker is
no longer ledgible and barely even there anymore).

Any suggestions on how to upgrade at no cost ?????????????
