Well, Patrick, I had a look at the limitations, as I did a reinstallation.
Search as such is no weaker than OneNote 2003 but Note Flag will NOT work
without WD3 beta installed. So there's a function that is actually dependent
in the strongest sense. NoteFlags is a core functionality too. Many people
who use OneNote would not use it without Note Flags.

that such a major function is tied to WDS.

AT ALL without WDS.

Are you saying that WDS is optional, not mandatory? Because it seems like
the worst part of the Beta is WDS.

Also, is WDS absolutely necessary to search Outlook 2007?

WDS is optional for OneNote and Outlook 2007. WDS is only needed if you
want Instant Search. If WDS is not installed, you'll get the slow search
you are used to from Outlook and OneNote 2003.
Note that someone figured out that Note Flags in OneNote 2007 seem to
depend on WDS and don't seem to work without.
