How to remove SP1 update

How can you say not being able to open any program in office 'causes no damage & can be rectified with a few mouse clicks'. You tell me how to rectify. I tried everything suggested here to no avail. Besides, MS should have tested more closely before releasing. Apple does the sme thing. You expect some bugs on a major update but not being able to open programs is uncalled for.

I guess he's saying that because he knows it is true.

But you don't even have a problem, apparently. You certainly haven't told
us about one.

If you care to describe your problem, beginning with your version numbers
(OS and Office) we'll tell you how to solve it with a couple of
mouse-clicks.

But while you continue to shout that Microsoft should double or triple the
price of Microsoft Office, and keep us all waiting until next decade for it,
you're going to run into some opposition in here :)

Hi john -

us about one.

In all fairness he has done so - unfortunately the info is scattered among
several different threads in at least 2 of the Mac news groups which makes
it impossible to follow. At this point I'm afraid I've lost track of what
has/has not been done.

OK guys. I'm running 10.5.2 OS & 12.0.1 Office. Shut down all apps, installed SP1 and all I get is the Setup assistant. Tried all suggestions on MacFixIt. Still nothing. I removed office (uninstaller) and reinstalled with 1st update, back to orig 12.0.1. Never had any problems with this.

Ah hah! That's becoming a bit clearer. If SP1 takes you directly to the
Setup Assistant, that can mean that the product key is bad.

That's on the front page of Mactopia, here:

That link may not work, we have a bug in the website that they are working
on: here's a shorter version:

John: I used the original product key that came with Office. No problem updating to 12.0.1. And it is only installed on 1 computer.

Glad to hear it Martin - thanks for letting us know!

Yeah, I understand. But it's bad now.

Treat it as a "Bad Product Key" and delete the PID and the Preferences.
When you do that, chances are things will come right.

Let us know what happens after you have done this. You have one of those
conditions that may take "work" to sort it out, but this is the first step.

So you're saying delete the 2 files leaving everything else in place and it should work. Is that correct?

J

John McGhie

Yes. Carefully follow the instructions in the article (VERY carefully -- if
you hit the wrong thing, your system will not re-start).

Then when you start any Microsoft application, it will ask you to re-insert
the Product Key, and it should be good to go.

John: Which article? There are a lot of articles and suggestions. Also, if you are saying it thinks the Product Key is bad, when I re-enter the key again won't the same thing happen?

C

CyberTaz

I'm afraid John's in the midst of a 30 hr. flight home from SF...

The article he's referring to is here:

-a06d-81cde168e5131033&ep=9&target=f2d51b70-f7d6-4a3c-ae8b-b90597d7530e1033&
CTT=InContent&usid=8d752199-660c-4f63-bf12-da7442c3e42d>

If that one is too long to survive the trek try this:

http://tinyurl.com/633vwp

The crux of the issue is that the file storing the key is not able to be
read effectively. Removing & re-entering typically resolves the problem.
