Guess what? i'm having the exact same issue! I'm in Grand Rapids,
Michigan... where are you located? I use Network solutions, Charter, and
MSOutlook 2003. I've been told to call Microsoft by Comcast and Charter. We
need some experts Experts Experts to work on this one. HELP!!! andy

I just talked to Charter and they told me to change my incoming mail server
inside my outlook to pop.charter.net that contradicts what everyone else is
telling me, so I don't know if I was just talking to someone who doesn't know
what he's talking about or if that might work. But it seems like that's
wrong advice since it's the outgoing messages I'm having troubles with.
input?........

Not a clue. You have offered no symptoms, or error messages. The latter is
better; complete and unabridged is best.

That is the kind of flawed logic I keep running into with them and hence my
frustration. You don't have to be an IT guy to know that if someone receives
something and then it disappears, they somehow lost what they received. duh!

One other though occurs to me: User Agent string. All email clients stamp
their messages with a User Agent string in the headers. My favorite is
Pegasus Mail:

| X-mailer: Pegasus Mail for Windows (4.41)

My mother prefers MS Outlook Express:

| X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.5512

I have played with Windows Live Mail:

| X-Mailer: Microsoft Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606

And even with Mozilla Thunderbird:

| User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 (Windows/20080213)
| X-Mailer: Unknown (No Version)

Yes, both of those appear in Thunderbird email headers.

Even the Opera browser has an email client built into it:

| User-Agent: Opera Mail/9.24 (Win32)

Some spam filters look for certain User Agent strings, and filter the email
based on them. Could happen either on the Embarq, or the Comcast email
servers.

I am not having the "exact same issue" as the OP. I am having trouble with
Comcast, Embarq, and MSN rejecting email through two of my ISP servers,
'nlpi015.prodigy.net' and 'nlpi029.prodigy.net'; but I am getting DSNs
(Delivery Status Notices) about the failures.

My ISP is 'at&t Yahoo! HSI', and I am using their legacy SMTP message
submission server, 'mail.pacbell.net', because the designated Yahoo! Mail
server, 'smtp.att.yahoo.com' is especially pissy about sender email
addresses not in the 'pacbell.net' domain.

I also use that service and don't seem to have any problem sending messages
with whatever address I choose, provided I authenticate properly.

Your incoming server must be the server hosting the mailbox to which your
messages go. If your address is @charter.net, then you'll need to use the
Charter POP server. You should be able to use any outgoing server you want,
provided you supply the credentials and port that server expects (and it
accepts SMTP traffic).

is there a way that an expert could possibly email me directly because I
don't get notifications when there are updates/replied to the issues. My
main email address is (e-mail address removed) and I am still having the issue
of not being able to send to comcast.net recipients if I use Outlook. Can
someone email me directly to try to possibly help me? thanks, andy

You should never publish your email address in a newsgroup unless you have a
good way to deal with the spam. If you were to use a real newsreader
instead of the web interface, you'd find working with the newsgroups easier.
