and have installed MS Office 2007 and am unable to remove the Office 97. I
have read the great answers diddling with registries, backing up systems that
are pretty scary. I have printed out 320820, 302894, 302700, 309340 & watched
the video.
There has to be some other way - there are lots who have or will have the
same problem upgrading from Office 97 to 2007. Learning the new ribbon &
finding out where this super new stuff is located is chore - probably will
eventually make us all more productive, but I'm hesitant in getting in way
over my head & losing my system, files etc and not be able to get back on
track. Is there a simple, non-scary, "remove Office 97" for Dummies? Thanks,

Hearing no response, I found a solution. If you have MS Office 97
Porfessional Edition installed on a computer with XP Home Edition SP2 and you
cannot remove the MS Office 97 (to install Office 2007) then this is what I
did.
You can go to MS website Downloads and download a removal wizard which can
detect among many things, Office 97, and removes it. The wizard does not
remove documents or other user files from your computer. They have a list of
wizards, scroill down to the Office Resource Kit (orktools.exe).
SImple download this file (free) - it is about 10 mb in size. Once you
download it, click your Start button, Point to All Programs, point to
Microsoft Office Tools, point to Microsoft Office XP Resource Kit Tools, then
click the Romoval Wizard.
You will get three options on which files you wish to delete. I tired the
first on the list, but it only deleted about a quarter of the files, I
selected the one deleting all MS Office 97 and that did the trick. I am now
operating with my Office 2007 & have gotten rid of the Office 97. I have no
bad words for Office 97 - I have had it for 10 years and it was perfect. Now
to learn the "easier, faster, more helpful way.........
If you had the same problem as did skibuz and me, this will help without
getting wrapped around the axle with your registry. Good luck!!!!!!
