Installing Office 2000 upgrade

S

Simon Brown

Hi,

My Dad's pc came with office 2000 pro preinstalled, he does have the 2
CD's also, but they are 'Upgrade' version. (original MS discs, cd key
on yellow sticker)

Following big problems with the HDD and having to replace it and do a
clean install of his OS it came time to install Office.

The Office installation wont install because of no previous version
installed.

How do I go about Installing Office? Legitamately please!

Regards
Simon

Hi, Simon,

The Windows Installer must have proof of a previous version.

What I'm confused about is how a pre-installed Office could be an
upgrade...I think you'll need to contact the original equipment manufacturer
if you don't have the original installation media from the previous version.
OEMs are responsible for supporting the software that they install.

the shop no longer exists, is no longer trading.
The pc came with office already on it, the 'Upgrade CDs' where given at
the time of purchase.

Hm...perhaps no longer trading because there were using the wrong CDs?
<grin>

Unfortunately, the upgrade CDs won't work unless they are upgrading. You
don't mention what version of Office you're using. I recommend finding out
what are approved updatable software and see if you can find a reliable
source on eBay or somewhere for the old software at a reasonably low price.

For example:

OFF2000: Products That Qualify for the Microsoft Office Upgrade:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;210437

This applies to Office 2000. You'll want to search the Microsoft Knowledge
Base to find your specific version of Office and what qualifies for an
upgrade.
