Issues with re-insall of Office Beta 2

B

BobB

Bob and Milly,

Thank you for your help so far. Bob, I tried the steps you mentioned, I did
have other Beta 2007 programs installed. I uninstalled those, did another
temp folder cleanup, and ran the steps in the article quoted, including
enabling logging. I still see the same failure as originally described trying
to install the original Beta package (BTW, I moved this off the desktop and
tried to install from a location on C:). What seems a little strange is that
after the failure, I went searching for the log file to read through it and
to attach it, but there was no log file found on my system called MSI*.log,
or B2tr.log.

How bad is the registry surgery you are suggesting?

Hi Bob,

Hmmm. If you use Start=>Run and type in
%temp%
are there any log files or subfolders with .log files there (you'll need to have Windows Explorer set to show file extensions in
folders).

Check in the registry to see if the value for the 'logging' key shows
voicewarmup
as it's value. The location is shown here.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314852/en-us?FR=1

The basic registry surgery to try to clear out one of the 'hooks' for Office version mismatches is to use Regedit to search for keys
that end in 0FF1CE (zero FF one CE) and export a safety copy, then delete them restart the PC and try the Beta 2 installation.

Bob,

I tried the latest suggestions. I was able to find the log files. I went
into the registry and removed all instances of 0ff1ce (keys ending in that
string). I rebooted after removing them and tried a reinstall, but I still
have the same failure result. The log file is fairly verbose, I have attached
the last 30 or so lines here, if that might help.
