I think as with many applications, Word takes its default language from the
Regional Settings in Control Panel.

Which is something I really hate... The fact that I am writing on an Italian
sysdtem does not mean that I am writing in Italian language. I can write in
English, Italian, Spanish or French. It is up to me to decide. In my
opinion, it should be possible to have an option that tells Office in which
language I usually write documents, with the possibility to associate to
each document its own language. In practise you would have

1. the default language of your system
2. the default language of your documents
3. the language of a specific document
4. the language of a piece of a text in a specific document

Hi Dario,

All of the items you listed are possible today in Office.
http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/LangFmt.htm.

A style in Word can include a language setting and you can apply language
specifics for proofing to individual sections, paragraphs or words.

You don't get the proofing tools for every language included in Office, but
they're available as part of the MS Office Proofing Tools Kit.
