I tried and checked all of your suggestions, it doesn't change a thing.
Thank you for your assistance. All of you.

I owe all who have attempted to help me an update. The one thing I had not
considered is the package writing software's role in this equation. At the
time we were discussing this case on-line I was using Roxio's Easy Media
Creator, to be more specific it's package writing software Drag-to-Disc. I
had installed that software late last year and all along felt that that
install might have had something to do with it. Yesterday I uninstalled that
version and re-installed Roxio 6 - Easy CD & DVD creator. My problems have
now been resolved. Last night I logged into Roxio's on-line discussion forum
and found that I am not the only frustrated person out there. Apparently
many are having a problem in the Roxio and Word (2002 and 2003) interface.
It is not entirely clear what happens, but for sure my problems are over with
as of yesterday afternoon.

I know that I stumped all of you with my problem, though it turns out that
the problem did not lie within Microsoft's software rather elsewhere. Not
knowing that you guys couldn't have helped me. Now maybe you can redirect
the next user having this problem.

Thank you.

Peter.

Thanks for the update Peter!

Definitely not clear on *how* it could happen - I still suspect it
could have something to do with the way it handles the temp files. In
any case I'm glad to hear it has been resolved. :)
