Microsoft Office Customization Tool error message: Failed to get available product info

The new Microsoft Office Customization Tool in Office 2007 (setup.exe
/admin) is amazing. It worked perfectly the first four times I ran it,
and created perfect .MSP files for about a dozen installations from this
network installation point.

Now, all of a sudden, it's broken. When I try to run setup.exe /admin,
the error message is "Failed to get available product info." When a
user tries to run Setup.exe, they get the error message, "Setup did not
complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience".

I tried removing my custom .MSP file, but got the same result. I tried
copying over the files from the DVD I burned to the network installation
point, but it made no difference. It's not a privileges problem; even I
get these messages, and I have all rights. I tried searching
Microsoft's knowledgebase (and the Internet too), but found no mention
of this error message.

Can someone help? This has about killed the Office 2007 enthusiasm I've
been trying to promote. Sande

Hi Sande,

It's possible that something is corrupted in the Office Network Point that may be a latent issue with the ISO file download. What
happens if you download a new image and create a new Network Point (separate from the current one)?

So I created a new network installation point on the server, and copied
the files from the DVD to it. No customization, no nothing. And I
still get the "Failed to get available product info" when I try Setup
/Admin. Plain old Setup also fails to work from the server. (And
remember, Setup and Setup /Admin worked from the original network
installation point for two weeks before failing.)

Yet Setup works fine from the DVD disc.

Someone from Microsoft wanna weigh in? Is there any place on the
Internet I can find a guide to Office 2007 Setup error messages?

I meant to say, "from the Microsoft Office Setup development team".

No offense meant, Bob. Do you know who is responsible for problems like
this?

Hi Sande,

Rather than creating another Network Point from the same burned CD, the item that is suspect is the actual download. What happens
if you try another download?

It's possible that there could be an issue with the profile you're using as well. Is a log file being created when you get this
error?

Trial and error leads me to believe the problem is in one of two areas:

1. Either Office 2007 will not tolerate some of the subdirectories I'm
making under the network installation point (Addins, Docs, eLearning,
LanguagePacks). -or-

2. Something (an installation from this point?) is leaving a files12.cat
in the Catalog subdirectory that Office Setup does not like.

Because I keep "corrupting" the network installation point simply by
using it! But after I move some files and directories around, it works
again, without going back to the original DVD or .IMG.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any ideas? Sande
