MS Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003 will not instal/reinsta

I try to open a Word (or an Excel doc) and get a message:- 'Installing
components for MS Office Word.' The installation fails and another window
appears:- 'An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning
properly. Would you like to repair this feature now?' I click 'yes'. A
previous window opens:- Installing components for MS Office Word.' Then a new
window:- 'The feature is not available.' I click 'OK' and get a new message:-
'MS Office has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to
instal the application.' I do this by clicking 'Start - Run - setup and OK'.
I get a window saying:- 'Windows XP setup. Please go to the Control Panel to
instal and configure System components.' Click 'OK' and in the Add and Remove
Programs of Control Panel at 'MS Office Standard Edition 2003' I click
'Support information' then 'Repair'. I get a message saying 'Fatal error
during installation.' I have also tried to reinstal from the original
programme disk but get the same result. I would appreciate help to fix this
problem?

When prompted to run Setup to install application, have the MS Office CD in
drive. It is looking for that setup.exe.

Thanks for your input. My appology for my last short reply to you...sorry...I
was pushed for time and didn't think then was away for a while. 'Yes', I did
try what you said but 'No', it didn't work. I got half way through Setup.exe
then the installation stopped with a message that an error had occurred
viz...'An error occurred during installation and Setup was unable to
complete.'...and asked me to send an error report to Microsoft which I did. I
have no idea of where to go from here. have you any other ideas?
