MS Word Spell Check Highlighting Problem

H

Herb Tyson [MVP]

The way this started, the client had been talked into switching to Word. I
guess this might come under the heading of knowing when to "leave
well-enough alone."

Word does offer a number of advantages over some other word processors. But,
if someone is accustomed to WordPerfect or something else, then those
advantages tend can quickly be offset by the aggravation factor involved in
having to change the way one works.

Solutions that could make the problem go away -- turning off 'check spelling
as you type' or breaking the document up into smaller units -- are solutions
the client won't use. Given the earlier description of the type of
documents -- "highly technical in nature, so it likely uses a lot of
graphics, special fonts, math symbols, science graphs" -- I suspect that the
problem is indeed Word itself. Word does not excel at handling large complex
documents. If the client isn't willing to change any aspect of what he/she
is going, then I don't believe there is a solution that involves Word.
