Of course, by the time I was able to get back to it, the Verizon code had
expired, so had to explain the whole thing again. I didn't get the error
message again, so Verizon says all looks good.

still hanging...maybe a little improvement, hard to tell. Not like the
response I was getting in safe mode. Shutting down is taking forever also.
Thoughts? Thanks,

hard to say from my end.

could be your antiviral
causing the delay, could be
your registry littered with
old registry keys from the
former antiviral and other software

you may have an issue with a hardware,
you may have software running in the background
that don't have to be, could be issue
with fonts, etc...

however, focusing on office
you may want to delete the
normal.dot template,

you may want to set your
default printer to disable
or maybe default your printer
to a pdf print driver like acrobat
or primo pdf.

you may want to do a detect
and repair (again).

because of the issue with the
former vm, your disk is likely to
be heavily fragmented. this is why making the
v.m. larger than it has to be is simply wasted
space, unused and contributes to the fragmentation.

so focusing on windows,
there are two things for your
windows configuration.

go to start > run > cleanmgr

then do a disk defrag

then go to Microsoft.com and install
pagedfrg by sysinternals and set it to
run at each boot.

then reboot.

other than the above, there
is nothing more i can provide
from my end. but it is not to
say that if i were sitting at your
pc that more could not be done
to improve the performance.

one thing that is clear is
that in safemode your system
is blazing fast. so this is a good
benchmark for you to use with
your analysis. however, it is not
an absolute benchmark. it may be
likely that what you are experiencing
now in normal mode is normal for
your current configuration and pc.

before we conclude this thread
do the suggestions above and
let us know what your final outcome
is.
