Office 2003 SP1 setup error

A

aston

Hi all,

Get the following error when installing the above:

"The update cannot be applied."

This is after the licence has been accepted and the files
are extracted and the "preparing to install"
and "Gathering required information" dialogs are displayed.

This on XP Pro SP1 fully patched, but without any SP2 RCs
etc.

SP1's for OneNote, Visio and Project have all been applied
succesfully.

Last Office Update run was last week when two updates,
office2003ptk-kb838022-client-enu.exe and project2003-
KB832887-FullFile-ENU.EXE had to be downloaded and applied
manually.

Running Office Update now it just silently kills IE.

The same error is generated if I run the full file or
client versions of the install.

The following text appears at the end of one of the logs:

The update failed.
Finished processing the update on 07/27/2004 at 17:19:08.
Encountered error 1603 while updating.
FindError result: failed
Error 1603 not ok to report to Setup Watson.

Realise Office SP1 is fresh out but anyone have any ideas.

I'm having the same problem - both from the Office update site (where it
just says the update was unsuccessful) and from the downloaded client
install of SP1. In fact, I have not been able to update the Outlook Junk
Email Filter nor the Visio 2003 SP1 from the Office site. Any ideas?

I'm getting " Installed Failed" with Office 2003 and/or Outlook Junk
mail update. Looking at the event viewer I find this -

Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: OfficeUpdateV3
Event Category: None
Event ID: 0
Date: 27/07/2004

information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this
description; see Help and Support for details. The following

21:23:48|9|FAIL|00000000|The operation completed successfully.|.

The last line is especially useful - FAIL... The operation completed
successfully ;-) I'm only trying to install on the local PC BTW.

If it' significant I'm using the HUP version of Office.
