Office 2007 "Installation of this package failed"

I also know how to spell properly, use fairly decent English, and don't
respond to posts that are three months old. Perhaps I could teach you a
thing or two....or perhaps not. It's impossible to teach those who will not
learn.

Yea it does say that but if you know that many fail to install WHY charge
for the download... I just wasted my $1.40 US... no wonder Microsoft have
great profits..

Since you know you were forewarned, you can't complain. There were no
guarantees, written or implied.

Ok, JoAnn, it's obvious that you are just a rude troll, so maybe you
need someone to point out some things that are obvious to most people
of at least average intelligence or better.

1) Internet forums are for sharing information and learning from other
people. Just because Microsoft doesn't provide support for a beta
product, doesn't mean that people should have any hesitation about
posting here to try to solve a problem. These forums aren't on
Microsoft.com, people aren't asking Microsoft for help, so just
freaking shut up about that. Let people try to figure out the problems
and solve them.

2) There is no reason that someone can't respond to a post that's 3
months old. If the information is still relevant, then there is good
reason to post and ask questions and try to resolve the problem. If
you have a problem with that, that's fine, but please troll somewhere
else

3) MVP isn't really that impressive of a title. It isn't that hard to
get, and publisher really isn't that tough of a product. If you had a
hard to earn cert, then I'd be a little more impressed. When I saw you
were putting your MVP for publisher on your sig, I really did laugh out
loud. If that's the only claim to fame I had, I'd be embarrassed.

4) This particular issue is continuing to occur even though the product
isn't in beta any more, and information posted in the thread has some
good information (minus your rants that detract). Although the post
was started 3 months ago, it still has relevant information and this
thread still comes up on google on the first page when searching for
the article. When I used the keywords Office 2007 "the installation of
this package failed", this was the second result. I just found them
today and had to weed through all your crappy posts, so even though you
were trolling months ago, this was my first exposure to the thread. The
internet stays around a lot, and just because you posted 3 months ago
doesn't mean that everyone else saw it at that time. You need to
smarten up about that and get off your high horse, and realize that
what you see as intellectual insults are just making you look plain
stupid. You are probably the only person that thought it was funny
when you insulted another poster asking them why it took them 3 months
to respond. everyone else was smart enough to realize that the person
just found the boards.

With that in mind, thank you everyone that has contributed useful
information. This thread has given me some good starting points,
although so far I haven't found a solution in here that works. I'm
going to try to do the manual extraction that was suggested though
since I haven't done it yet.

I'm trying to install the Office 2007 pro from the Launch 2007 event,
and it has the exact same issue many of you have been having.

And Joann, get a life. Despite your comments, I really doubt you could
teach anyone a thing or two about anything but trolling, although even
as a troll you are only mediocre. I've seen many trolls that are much
better. Get yourself some better certs or titles you can use besides
MVP for Publisher as well.

Jo Ann was correct and she was not rude at all. You do not post or attach to a 3 month old one. Start a new one and explain you issues properly. I do not see your old post that you are referring too since it is long gone from my server.

If you need some help then you explain your issue correctly and in as much detail as possible. I also would have given you a very similar response.

Now if you care to explain your issue maybe someone or myself can help or put you on the right track to getting your issue fixed which we still do not know what it is.

Maybe these forums are different than most I've been to, but it doesn'
make sense to make a new post when there is useful information in th
past post that then can end up being duplicated and which leaves tw
posts that people have to search through instead of just one.

In addition, this post is the one that google is finding, so whe
solutions are found, having a solution here means people will fin
their answer, whereas a new post won't come up yet on google, and henc
people are less likely to find it.

I completely disagree about Joanne being rude. Her tone came acros
very snobbish and elitist and provided only condescension and no usefu
information. Telling someone "or perhaps not. It's impossible to teac
those who will not
learn." comes across rude to me, and I'm not even the one she addresse
the comment to. I could go back and post other comments she made tha
were just as rude or worse, but it's not worth wasting the time.
Regardless, people came here asking questions and rather than answe
questions, she told people that it's unsupported. Although that i
true, the attitude totally defeats the purpose of the forum. What i
everyone took that attitude all the time? These would be very useles
forums. The extension of that attitude would be that if it'
unsupported, people shouldn't be posting and asking, but that if
product IS supported, that they should go through proper channels o
support rather than post here. Hence the boards become totall
unneeded and unnecessary as people go elsewhere to get their question
answered.

My feeling would be that someone should either contribute to the post
and try to help, or else just shut up. Honestly, what is the point o
telling someone the product is unsupported? Everyone knows that, an
that's why they are here instead of Microsoft's site.

I do appreciate your offers of help. I have figured out the solutio
for my issue however, so it's not needed. :) Your approach i
significantly better than Joann's approach of just telling people it'
not supported. Thanks.

As far as the solution, I found a few pieces of information to add t
this post. I did find that my problem was that that the file wa
incomplete. Even though it appeared to complete properly, when
checked the file sizes, it was only 1/2 the size it should have been.
It won't tell you the file is incomplete, it just fails during install
I'm pretty sure this is the reason that one poster said that when h
redownloaded Office that it worked.

One additional thing I found that causes some people problems on othe
forums is that the error can occur if you don't have the Window
Installer 3.1 installed
