seemed to work. finally coming across this solution was the best thing
thats happened yet in this whole office 2007 business. amazing find, i
have to give you lots of credit. this is my first post on this forum but
i'm hoping to become more acquainted and start helping people like you

Thanks so much. I received a new Dell Mini 9 for Christmas. This pas
weekend I tried loading Office 2007 using two different download
(ultimate and professional). Neither worked. However, after readin
your post, I was unable to locate the "fpault.dll file" on the XP OS C
that shipped with my mini. I copied this file from my home PC to th
same location on my mini, started the install office 2007 process an
ended with a successful installation. I really appreciate all the hel
from this site

The sad part is that MicroSUCK has to be aware that this is an issue an
it's about 35 seconds to write 2 lines of code to add to the install o
to push out an "update" that will put the file in the right place.

I have an Enterprise version of XP with SP3 slipstreamed and I canno
get Office to install. I have been pulling my hair out

As I had the same install issue with a clean XP install then office
2007. This guide solved the protected file install error. The only
change is that the correct dll is fp4ault.dll

1. From Windows install disk, or c:\i386 that may have been set up in
an OEM install, open (Double click) on the FP40EXT.CAB file. It should
open.

2. find fp4ault.dll in the list

3. double click and select extract to c:\program files\common
files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\40\bin

4. Restart the 2007 office install

This file has to do with Frontpage Extensions, I have not used nLite in
quite a while but I believe it is possible to leave these files intact.

I had this same error and just used the fpault.dll file from another XP
system (seemed the quickest solution).

One thing to be aware of is Windows may ask you to replace the files
that were modified (it detected the new files) and will ask for the
Windows XP CD; just hit cancel (you know what you're doing, MS
doesn't!).

nLite was used for the ISO I deployed

Hi All!
I had the same install issue with office 2007 because I modified my
windows xp installation. I didn't find fp4ault.dll in my FP40EXT.CAB. I
have windows XP SP3. I extracted to c:\program files\common
files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\40\bin all DLL files.
Thanks all of you for help.

Thank you very much, this solution solved my problem : )

But do you know how to insert this DLL in Windows installation CD? S
the next time you install Windows, such problem won't happen again?

Thanks a lot again

Thanks a million! Such a simple solution to an unnecessary but hugely
frustrating problem. At times I try to defend MS with phrases like "they
have to make software to fit all computers everywhere used by nearly
everyone so there will be gliches, hiccups etc..." However when their
own software has issues with their os I can't defend such rubbish.

This kind of help is what makes the internet work!

Thanks
