Office 2007 without having 2003

L

luap

I have installed office 2007 without ever having 2003 on my machine.
When I try to open a 2003 doc. thru e-mail or other, it trys to install 2003
and eventuality ask for the install disk for 2003 which I nevar had.
Is there a patch for this?

Is Office 2007 an Update version of Office ??? It is probably asking for a valid
product for Updating

L

luap

When I try to open a 2003 file a box pops up saying "prepairing to install"
then other box says "wait while windows configures microsoft office standard
Edition 2003"
then yet other box pops up saying "installation error.file not found a
required installation file SKU 112.cab not found"
and directs me to put in the 2003 install CD or browse to find on a drive of
my PC

Thanks for your help Jaul

Which version of Office 2007 do you have installed? If you bought a
download, which version does it say on your invoice, which you probably have
in an email? If you have a disk, what does it say on the disk? Mine says
for example, "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007".

My initial thought is to run Office Setup in repair mode and see if it fixes
your problem.

You shouldn't be getting this message. Things to try are start Word, for
example, and open a 2003 file from Open in the upper left corner. If you do
this Word might be able to register itself, thus fixing your problem. If
you just installed Office 2007 it would be a good idea to install all
updates that are available on http://office.microsoft.com, downloads, office
update. You might try running Office Setup in repair mode if these two
don't work.

you might want to
run a registry cleaner.

also, you might want
to check your file associations
and ensure that the .doc
extension is set to open
with word 07.

Running a Registry Cleaner is asking for trouble. Do not run any . They are all
snake oil remedies and it does nothing except give you trouble . If you do not know
the registry then do not touch it.

Yes I agree with you on this, I think my problem is not ever having 2003
installed on my pc. I would think there is a easy fix but I dont know what it
is? Should I look for the file 112.cab on MS web site? I also thought about
installing 2003 if I can find or is this asking for more touble?

I have a PC that never had a prior version of Office on it, and Office 2007
is working just fine. That is not your problem. You do not need the
install disk for 2003 and you do not need to install any files from that
disk. Have you run Setup in Repair Mode yet? Have you installed all the
current Office updates?

I suspect you had Office Standard 2003, even if it was just a trial version
or perhaps someone started to install it on your system but never completed
it.

Not if the Office 2007 is an Update version Earl. What does a person use as a
qualifying product if there is none

E

Earle Horton

OP denies having an update version. I think he claims having Home and
Student 2007. He looked on the package and couldn't find the word "update".

Hi Luap,

SKU112.cab is part of MS Office 2003 Standard Edition. As JoAnn mentioned it
could have been a preinstalled trial edition that came with the PC.
Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel to see what MS
Office Products or apps are listed. If you find Microsoft Office 2003 there
you may be able to remove it from there if you don't plan on using it.

Will uninstalling 2003, if I find it, in add & remove programs, will that
have a effect on my office 2007, My problem is not being able to open 2003
files with my 2007 office

Running a registry cleaner is asking for trouble and they are snake oil. If
the OP has a problem like a trial version of Office 2003 installed then
snake oil registry cleaners will do nothing for him.

Cheers,

Earle
