I've done a little testing an beleive that issue may be with permisions
related to Microsoft installed Fonts, Automator scripts, Plists, or install
packages.

In any case, I found that by doing the following, I was able to get it to
work:
1. Remove the above noted items, plus the Microsoft Office 2008 folders
recommended by Microsoft.
2. Reboot the 10.6 system
3. Empty the trash
4. Install from the store bought disk, update from 12.1.0 to 12.2.1 without
issue.

If you need more specifics, I've posted an instruction for reference on the
company web site. This is what I did in more detail.

Hope this input helps. I don't know if it will fix it for all, and I know it
is a tab more technical than desired.

Diane,

Can you please remove, or at least forgive, my duplicate postings. For some reason, my first attempts to post to the forum didn't appear for a few days. So I retried a few times. I had expected them to appear after 20 or 30 minutes.

It is a bit embarrassing. I also posted to the microsoft.public.mac.office news group thinking I couldn't post here. Now all of my attempts seem to have appeared! I'm new to posting to a forum.

Sorry.

No worries. I'm not sure dupes can be removed. Microsoft does remove spam
but nothing else AFAIK.
