office 97 - a different setup issue

I've got the same problem, also on a D620. The first D620, I hit
Windows Update before installing Access 97, and got this error. My
second D620, the first thing I did was run Office 97's setup.exe. It
got the same error.

An hour on the phone with Dell found the answer for me.

Program Compatibility Wizard (Start/Help and Support/Fixing a
Problem/Application and Software problems/Getting older programs to run
on Windows XP/Program Compatibility Wizard)
Pick your Office 97 setup program.
Choose Windows 2000 compatibility and disable visual themes.

That made it run. Hope it helps.

Thanks a bunch. I had to get the system out (this person didn't
require Access 97 but others will) so I waited for another to arrive.
