Office wont start after update!

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Ok, so i installed office and had all the updates done..and when i click on word it opens, then i do the last update which was on april 14 i believe and after that it doesnt open. it keeps saying register online (that box where u can click "learn more" or "register online") i click finish it opens up the update screen, there are no more updates so i close that and word never opens nor does excel or anything else.

whats the problem?

There are two errors:

1) After I install, AutoUpdate is still telling me I need to update.
2) Office Setup Assistant opens when I try to open an Office 2008
application (loops)

did option 1 where u deleted the two files and once i go put in the producte key, i click continue and it doesnt continue itjust stays on that screen as if the continue button didnt realize i clicked it.

I would test in a new User's account, but it's sounding more like you have
problems at the base level. I would try the new User and if there is no
improvement, then download the combo updater and the last fix would be to do
an "Archive & Install". Really it's not that bad. The last time I had to do
an "Archive & Install" the only thing I had to re-install was the Microsoft
keyboard software.

what is the combo updater? sorry i just bought this a week ago so im new to macbook.

new user meaning diff acount name from the admin one? lets say i do and it works then what do we do cuz i can't get it on the admin one? I mean it works fine until i do the most recent update.

BTW: how do u uninstall a program? i can't find an uninstall feature for it so not sure the other way around it.

what is the combo updater?

This explains what a combo is as well as the other types of updaters. Combos
will go back and refresh old files, where an incremental updater that you
get from Software Updater does not refresh old files.

sorry i just bought this a week ago so im new to

Was the MacBook new? Even new computers can get out of whack and when you
are new to a platform it's easy to do something wrong that messes up things.

Yes. Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to
the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test in the new
User.

This is to just get you installed in the root application folder. Once we
get Office so it opens, THEN we work on your User's folder.

Office comes with "Remove Office". It's in this folder:

/Application/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office

Can you explain in more detail? I'm not sure I follow you on this. Give an
exact example.

tried to install Mac update combo 10.5.6 and it said cant install on thsi volume, does not meet the requirements for this update. not what that means.

also the computer is brand new completely.

for the copy paste i meant lets say u want to cut an item from applications for example and paste it to the a file within a diff section on finder. can u?

b/c the only way i know to send a file is to drag and drop from the Finder window. It doesn't give the option to cut and paste. hope that was a bit clearer.

How can i view what programs i have and which i want to uninstall. or how can i uninstall something in general. I have a few programs taht dont have "uninstall" options, how do i uninstall soemthing then?

In the Menu bar, under the Apple select "about this computer." What version
does it say is installed?

Explain cut an item from application. You need to be more specific.

Are you asking how to send an attachment in Entourage? There are different
ways to do this.

€ If you toggle open the attachment pane, you can click on the add button.

€ You can drag a file to the Entourage icon in the dock and it will either
attach to an open message or open a new message with it attached.
€ You can drag a file into the Entourage window...either into the attachment
pane or if it's a screenshot into the body of an HTML message.

There is nothing like this on a Mac. Office has "Remove Office" that is
specifically for Office. Most applications you can simply drag to the trash.
I would be very leery of the so called clean up applications that are
supposed to remove thing because they can remove too much.

Look in your Application folder. Select what you don't want and use
Command-delete or drag to trash.

These are files recovered after a crash.

If there is an Apple store near you I would see if they have classes for new
users.

If you shut down incorrectly this would cause the recovered files to show up
in the trash. You must Quit and application using Command-Q or under File
--> Quit.

When you shut down your computer you need to select under the Apple menu
"Shut Down." If you simply power off, this will crash everything.

Yes, they are both email managers, but no they are not exactly alike.

Under the Apple menu select "About this Mac". Tell me what version you have
installed.

also, I put my yahoo account into entourage but it didnt load any of my messages or when i click switch it doesn't give me my email i put in as an option. it just goes into some default account with 1 mail saying thanks for using entourage etc etc.

If the volume, "the mac HD" does not have a system folder it will not
install. BTW, are you logged in as a non-admin user? This could also be your
issue.

That's not a default account. It's just a welcome message.

I don't know where you are looking. See this page for help setting up your
Yahoo account. Scroll down and you'll find several different types of Yahoo
account as examples.

If you set up your Yahoo account as POP your mail will come into the Inbox
under folders "On My Computer". If you set up as IMAP, it will have it's own
Inbox.

Did you check your account to be included in the Send & Receive all
schedule?

how does iphone get yahoo mail if i dont pay for pop but entourage needs u to pay?

and no, i am logged in as a Admin user. I dont have a guest/non admin account.
