I am using Office XP on my pc for word processing. My
operating system is also XP. I was originally using
Windows 2k Pro, I formated pc hard drive and installed a
clean copy of XP. I have SCSI drives and I have MY
DOCUMENTS on one Quicken on another so on and so forth.
My documents span several years starting with Office 97
and progressed to Office XP. A couple weeks ago my wife
went to access a document she had written earlier and she
said she could not read it that it looked chinese to her.
I looked at several documents in the MY DOCUMENTS folder
and they have all been converted some how. The file names
nor the extensions have changed but the files are
converted and office can not read them. When I try to
open any of the documents the MS WORD screen comes up
STARTS FLASHING and at the bottom of the screen in the
gray area it says "Requesting virus scan..." it acts as
if it is going to open the document but instead a CONVERT
FILE screen comes up with several different conversion
choices such as RTF,plain text, encoded text etc. I have
tried all the choices and it always comes up the same.
UNREADABLE BY ME and WORD. Anyone had a simular problem?
Here is a sample of one of the documents after they are
opened. This is a paper my son wrote for school. JUST
HOPING I DONT HAVE TO LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE!!! I have
nornton on my pc and it does not show any viruses
run in DOS mode.
