Outlook 2007 changed spelling of Outlook Express

As an FYI;
Windows Live Mail is the successor of Outlook Express and comes with its own
spell check (and a lot more convenient new options).
While the amount of supported languages is still limited in the currently
released version, the new version (with version number 14 in Help-> About)
will add support for more languages.

Haha, ok "successor" might be the wrong term for the Live version of it when
looking at it from a technical point of view. However, it has a similar look
and feel and is meant to replace both Outlook Express and Windows Mail.

That's another sore subject, I can assure you: All further development for
OE and Windows Mail was stopped by executive fiat in June 2006. (I'm sure
you can guess which executive did the fiating.) Yes, Vista was still in
beta then and all Windows Mail bugs (which persist to this day) were marked
"Will not fix."

Ouch! Yup, it sure is confusing with this mix of mail clients around here in
Vista land which are either replaced, abandoned or redesigned but are all
aiming for the same type of user. I'm sure this whole EU anti-trust thing
has got something to do with it as well. While it all may be correct
politics and pleases everybody in the administrative paper store, the users
suffer the most...

I presume you are wanting the default English [US] spell checker that is
automatically installed by Office 2007 to run with OE. I haven't found any
way of doing that,the formats seem to be different.
I'd like to remove English [US] as we only use the English [UK] spelling and
grammar (they differ significantly) but haven't found any way to
disable/remove the US version. Anyone out there know how?

The Office 2007 spell check will never work with OE. There is a UK option
below.

You no longer have spell checking capabilities in some languages in Outlook
Express 6.0 after you install the 2007 Microsoft Office system:

Outlook Express cannot use the MS Word spell check in Office 2007.
Downloading a free spell check is the simplest way around this.

In an all English install of Windows XP, Office, IE etc ...

Why, after doing a clean install of Office 2007 does the dictionary for
Outlook Express become French and no ability to select another one ???

Office Home and Student 2007 wiped out the English, German and Spanish
dictionaries of Outlook Express, leaving only the French dictionary.
Surely Microsoft should be offering a free download or patch to resolve the
problem! I called their help office, and was told to call another number, at
a cost of £49, for a problem they caused!!!!!!!
Had I known, I would not have bought this product.
Does Microsoft not communicate in English? Or does it just not communicate
at all.

Are any of these dictionaries UK English? Snapfiles has an Eagle logo, guess
its USA, and Tiny Spell cant find the page!

Problem here is all my programmes were pre-installed when I bought the
computer, so I dont have the discs to reload them.

Because 2007 removed the English dictionary when you installed it and
the French dictionary remained (North American copies of Office ship
with English & French for sure, and I think Spanish as well).
Explanation:
After installing Office 2007 RTM, you don't have English as a choice of
language in the spell checker of Outlook Express and potentially other
programs.

* Office 2007 is replacing the v.3 English Proofing Tools that
shipped in prior versions of Office with a new version (v.6). There are
a number of changes in this new version, but the one that is causing
this problem is that Outlook Express doesn't understand the new English
Proofing Tools. This is a problem because Outlook Express has never
shipped with its own proofing tools but has used the ones shipped by
Office.
* There are a few scenarios in which you won't run into this
problem:
o An upgrade from Office 2003 or earlier to Office 2007 RTM if
you don't manually uninstall the earlier version of Office.
o A configuration in which Office 2003 (or earlier) has not
been removed.
For example, I have Office 2003 still on both of my
computers, and I still have English in Outlook Express.
* The workaround for this problem is to install the English
dictionary from Office 2003 (or Office XP). There should be no need to
install all of Office just the dictionary. The English Proofing Tools
can be found in the Custom Install tree under 'Office Shared
Features|Proofing Tools|English'.

The Australian English Spell Check should suffice, and the TinySpell link
works here.

Vendors who preload also supply ways to generate install disks, ususally.
There is often a separate partition containing the disk images.
