Outlook error: MS Visual C++ Error Runtime Library - abnormal pr.

You can't change the names of files that are in use. Also note that dll
files are most of the time protected by the operating system and cannot be
changed unless Windows is running in safe mode.

In addition since this is an error caused by a product from Norton it's
better to contact Norton support.

I have tried to rename MSOUPLUG.DLL, but it will not let me.
Is there anything that i'm missing or not doing right ??
The error says that "Access is denied" , and something about making sure the
file is not in use.
How do i turn that file off to be able to rename it ??

Thanks

After hours and hours on this same subject and looking at many posts,
emailing Norton, emailing microsoft office, no reply. I contacted HP and they
had online chat to walk through. I could not change file name either and so
this is how I had to do it. Upon start up of your computer hit F8 key, select
safe mode command prompt. When command prompt comes up type CD C:\ then tap
enter, then type CD progra~1 then tap enter, then type CD common files and
tap enter, then cd syantec shared and tap enter, then cd antispam then tap
enter, then attrib -s -h -r MSOUPLUG.DLL. then tap enter, then type ren
MSOUPLUG.DLL. MSOUPLUG.OLD. then tap enter. That should change the file
name. After you get out of that and reboot you should not get that error
message anymore. I did have trouble opening anything in outlook aftter that
so I did the repair in outlook under file, open, outlook data file and just
set it back to default and renamed it and it worked perfectly after that. I
wanted to make sure I let everyone know because it has been such a hassle to
fix. You have to change the name of the file in safe mode where norton isnt
running. I am a total novice at this but had great support from HP who spent
a very long time helping me till it was complete. Good luck.

code crazy

is this also true in Internet Security 2005?

Are you running Norton Internet Security 2004? There is a problem with the
Antispam Outlook plugin. It seems to only affect multi-user XP systems.
Norton told me they are aware of the problem but have no fix (That was 3
months ago). You can get rid of the problem by renaming the" MSOUPLUG" file.
This will unfortunately stop Norton Antispam from working properly but
Outlook will not crash anymore. Hope this helps. That file is in C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Antispam on my computer I just Changed the
file extension to .old.
